Why Carter and Page even ate food and still drank anything to start with was a question none of them asked. It was not something they cared about it was just something they did cause they could. They did not even need to drink enough water every three days or eat something whenever they got hungry as they could go weeks without either and be just fine. At the same time, Carter's mom took up cooking as a hobby for herself personally. What she did not do was take up growing and/or gathering the food herself as she left that to others who did those things for her.
Since there was no need for anyone else other than Page and Carter to consume or drink anything anymore, the marketplace that this city had was a very different place as there was nothing really set up for food anymore as that was considered a novelty that only a select few residents even took part in producing anymore. The marketplace was now set up to cater to the various interests and needs that they all now had as robots instead of the ones that they formerly had as humans. Thus while things like farms and other places that were raising livestock were still present within the city limits it was done by those who saw it as their hobby. A thing that was what they just did in their free time when not doing the main thing that they did during the day after all. They were given their roles and purpose by Reva upon their roboticization as is normally done. Since he was offline at the time of it happening and just used to by Cami, Page, and Carter(that one time) to convert others. Having done that they were basically left to their own devices and functioned off their own thoughts and desires within the very vague orders they did have to follow from that point onward.
While Carter and Page were getting ready to eat the meals his mother had prepared for them. She went to the door where Cami was standing after taking off her apron and putting it up. Why she wore the apron was something that she did not understand herself as anyone else who cooks merely as a hobby wears one themselves. What caused her to do such things is what made her different then everyone else in the city but that was only one step above them. She was still not on the level of Cami and neither of them was on par with Page, Carter, or Reva in their unique aspects either.
"Cooking again," Cami said as she smelled the air.
A lack of the need to eat and drink did not mean that they no longer had a sense of smell as that sense was still present within them all. Actually, their sense of taste was still present as well as they could indeed taste things should they want to. However, eating and drinking were not something they did and/or were required to do anymore.
"Of course, as I always do it around this time" Carter's mom replied
"Did Page or Carter tell you the news yet?" Cami asked her
Though it was probably because she was not under her that Cami did come over to visit Carter's mom often. The two discuss and talk about many things now and then. Unconsciously Cami did not see anyone in the village as anything more than her acquaintances. She was not friends with any of them because she was on that level with them. She was friendly to them but she was their superior despite how much freedom they were allowed from not being directly ordered by Reva at the start. They were still all robots under his control and unconsciously they were following their chain of command just in a unique and varied way than normal.
However, Page, Carter, and his mom were different in various ways. Page was someone that she worked with and saw more as her personal assistant who helped her directly and was the one everyone else went to before addressing her with various matters. Carter was just there as he was allowed to do what he wanted but still kept away from areas that were just labeled as neutral third party only. Not that this bothered him as those places he was not allowed to go to held no interest for him anyway so there was no loss in his inability to go to those places himself. Then there was his mom who was considered to be someone who worked under him in the same way Cami and everyone else was under Reva through her. Carter's mom similarly follows her son but he never used that level of control over his own mom to get to do what he wanted her to. Basically, he just left her to her own devices and she did what she wanted as everyone else in the city did.
"Get this our lord has fully come online" Cami.
"Really that is amazing" she replied
However, what neither really paid attention to is Carter being the way he is and his mom being under him. She is not under Reva's sphere of influence in the same way as everyone else or merely aligned with him like Page is. She actually does not get any updates and/or notices as everyone else does. Thus she has either learn directly herself through reading it or she can digitally access the news as in what past for a news agency still within the city but it is digital now. Everyone in the city was free to access what news they put out whenever they wanted.
Both continued their usual talks as they began going on about the normal things they had been doing during since their last one. Go on and on about various things as amongst the sea of acquaintances that everyone else was to them now. They were the ones only that the other considered to be their friend at the moment.
