Chapter 7 - First Skirmish(1)

"Lieutenant Aaron! We've been ambushed, requesting reinforcements!" the voice of Vice-Admiral Corr could be heard over the transmission.

"Understood, please transmit the coordinates. We'll be there as soon as possible." Aaron responded, and the connection cut down. And Aaron turned around towards the crew.

"Active Combat Protocol Aurek, Stormtroopers to defensive positions, engineers to quick-response positions, and prep the TIE-Fighters!" Aaron told the 2 Operations-Officers, and they quickly got to work. As red alarms blared throughout his ship.

"Jump to hyperspace the second we get those coordinates, and patch the battle situation to my HoloTable." Aaron told both the Pilot and the Communication officers, as Aaron walked down the quick 4 steps to his HoloTable.

"Luca, Catcher. Come here." He told his 2 officers, and they quickly reported to his station.

"Coordinates received, approximate arrival: 3 minutes." The Pilot said, he didn't get a response but everyone heard it.

The standard procedure while asking for backup, was to send the newest situational rapport. Which means their ship number, fighters, modules, and friendlies.

"Situational rapport received, patching it through." C-2 said, as the picture of the battle appeared before them.

The 893rd Squadrons had split up, to patrol the Randon System, due to reports of a rebel force retreating through the system. So, the ISD 'Xindros', found itself alone. Facing the rebel force.

The rebel force consisted of an MC80 Star Frigate, which was currently battering it out with the Imperial Star Destroyer, yet the 'Xindros' was facing heavy damages, mainly due to enemy lighter force.

3 X-wing Squadrons, 36 ships. Were currently locked in an offensive fight with the Imperial TIE Fighters, Corr was smart and had kept the TIE-Fighters as a defensive force. But they were being overwhelmed.

The problem, however, was that the Rebel Fleet also consisted of 2 Nebulon-B Class Frigates and 4 CR90 Corvettes.

Although the Nebulon remained in the back, the CR90 was not. As the CR90, customized to carry concussion missiles. Were flying at the ISD's flanks, and launching waves of concussion missiles.

The CR90 was too fast for the Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer's heavy turbo lasers, and its shields were strong enough to tank its lower-graded weapons.

"Hm, their rear guard is weak. Only 2 Nebulon-Class Frigates." Luca pointed out, and Catcher nodded.

"Although I prefer the Venator, the ISD is strong. It could potentially hold out long enough for us to destroy the MC80." Catcher said, but Aaron narrowed his eyes slightly. Something wasn't adding up.

"No, I doubt that will be the case. We might get a few good hits at the start, due to our surprise visit. But then the MC80 will just bunker down if they cease their own turbo lasers. They can redirect that energy to the shield, and they will outlast Vice Admiral Corr." Aaron said.

"Additionally, the attack itself is unusual. The rebels are scattering to the outer rims, this fleet is likely the last, and this isn't the only Imperial Ship between them and the Outer Rim, they won't risk suffering heavy damages and would rather just escape." Aaron said and Luca caught on.

"And with the 'Xindros' as damaged as it is, it'll need to focus on its own repairs. Rather than hunting them down." Luca said and Aaron nodded.

"Pilot, exit hyperspace and re-enter with these coordinates." Aaron said as he sent some new coordinates to the Pilot.

"Understood, sir."

"G-9, prep missile launchers 1 through 4, standard ordinance." Aaron said, the standard ordinance was the concussion missiles, one of the strongest ones.

"G-1 through 6, once we exit hyperspace, target designated weak spot." Aaron said, as he once again transmitted information. But this time, a picture.

None of them responded, but they all opened the new information, and read through it.

"Exiting hyperspace in 60 seconds." The Pilot said.

"Captain Catcher, take 100 men and report to the hangar. I'm sure you can manage to get 50 in each Lambda Shuttle?" Aaron asked Catcher, who was standing without his armour and grinning like an idiot. Understanding Aaron's train of thought. And with a nod, he rushed out of the bridge.

The MC80 Cruiser was a lot smaller than the well-known Home One, but it was nevertheless large. Aaron suspected it had a crew of perhaps 3000 and maybe 48 fighters.

"Alright, C-2. Prep the pilots, the TIE Fighters are responsible for ensuring the Lambda-Class's safety." Aaron said, and the man quickly got to work.

"Alright, listen up everyone! Once we exit hyperspace, the turbo lasers are to unleash the first volley, fire until ordered otherwise." Aaron said, before turning towards G9, the man in charge of missiles.

"G9, fire at my discretion, understood?" He asked.

"Yes, sir!" The Gunnery Sergeant exclaimed, and Aaron smiled. Turning back towards the main window.

"Firepower to max, direct all energy to the turbo laser 1 through 6. Prepare to activate shields and lower firepower at my discretion. The turbolasers will only have a few seconds of max firepower." Aaron said, as the co-pilot began counting down the time until exit.

"Exiting in 20."

"15"

"10"

"Exiting hyperspace!" He shouted, as suddenly Aaron's scenery changed. Instead of the stream of blue matter, his ship was not 400 meters away from a Nebulon-B Frigate.

"OPEN FIRE!" Aaron shouted. And as Aaron saw the turbo lasers of the Nebulon, and the MC80 turn towards them, he ordered the pilot.

"Full speed ahead, we'll take cover under the Frigate." He said and the pilot nodded, as the 'Hound' altered its course, but slightly angled to the side, so the port turbolasers could fire as well.

"Indication of their shield levels?" Aaron asked the sensors officer, as a stream of green laser shot out of their ship, targeting a specific part of the Nebulon. Namely the thin part which held the engines and main ship together.

And after about 15 seconds of 6 turbo lasers firing at it, with max firepower. Coupled with the fact its rear shields were weaker, due to prioritizing energy distribution to the front.

"Extremely weak, 15% of maximum capacity!" He exclaimed, amazed, and Aaron simply smiled at that.

"Good, C9. Open fire!" Aaron shouted, as while the green laser continued its fire, further weakening the shields. 4 concussion missiles exited the ship, and sped towards its weaker part.

Luckily, due to being so close to the Frigate. The MC80 didn't have a line of sight, at least without damaging their own vessel. And therefore the 'Hound' faced very little incoming fire.

"Good, redistribute energy. 50/50, shields and firepower. Active shields and take evasive maneuvers. Head back towards the 'Xindros'" Aaron told the pilot and operations officer, who nodded as the ship turned towards the port.

"Give the green light for the boarding party, emphasize the importance of hiding amongst the Nebulon wreckage." Aaron said, just in time for a massive explosion to catch his vision. As the missiles hit, the first missile completely disrupted the ray shielding, and although the ray, particle and concussion shielding were somewhat independent, if the most important one, the ray shielding, was destroyed, then the 2 others would also fail.

And with that, the 3 other missiles crashed into the weak point of the Nebulon-B Cruiser, snapping the ship in 2, and causing a chain of explosions across the ship. And with that, the cruiser was down.

But with that, 5 ships could be seen leaving the Arquitens Hangar, 2 shuttles and 3 TIE-Fighters. Sadly though, due to the explosions and debris, the rebels would not detect their departure. And due to the Nebulon B now consisting of multiple fragments, their sensors wouldn't detect them either.

"Alright, reload concussion ports. Close the hangar and activ-" Aaron said, but was interrupted by C-1.

"Incoming transmission from The 'Xindros'" He said.

"Patch it through." Was all Aaron said as the ship continued to rush towards the ISD, they'd be within firing range of their fighters in 15 seconds. Or they are now, but attempting to shoot down a X-wing at this range was impossible.

"You came just in the last second." Vice-Admiral Corr said from the bridge of his ship but he quickly continued. "Deal with the CR90's as quickly as possible, Commodore Killian Rau and The 'Zaryuu' will be here in 5 minutes." He said, and Aaron nodded. Understanding the man's intentions.

"They've kept their bombers back, so I'll focus energy at the shields. They should hold for at least 7 minutes, so long the CR90's are dealt with, and no bomber lands a solid hit." He said, finally ending his discussion.

"Understood, sir. We'll take care of the Corvettes." Aaron said, forming a standard salute.

"I'm relying on you, Aaron. Do not disappoint me." Was the last he said before the transmission blacked out.

"Alright men, let's deal with these monkeys."
