The moon hung silver and heavy over the Sanctum, casting pale ribbons of light across the thick velvet curtains. Inside, the bedroom was dim and quiet, save for the occasional soft rustle of blankets or the faint, contented sigh of Nova in her cradle.
Samantha lay nestled between Callum and Marcus, Kai stretched out lazily at the foot of the massive bed. It was the first night in what felt like forever that they were all together, without an immediate threat looming over them—or so they thought.
Callum shifted slightly, his hand brushing lightly over Samantha's bare arm, fingertips trailing sparks in their wake. Samantha let out a small gasp, her skin suddenly feeling far too sensitive, a flush creeping up her neck. She turned slightly to glance at him.
