Durin's judgment was correct; on the third day of excavation, a young man from a nearby village came looking for him.
The old housekeeper's grandson at the manor recognized the visitor; he was a young refugee who had fled here from Copenhagen during the Northern Kingdom's upheaval years ago. Duke Algin always sympathized with such orphans, so he arranged for him to stay in the village, giving him a house and the right to cultivate wasteland.
But the young man was quite clever; he even knew how to write books. He quickly opened a small shop in town for writing letters, something Alkin Territory sorely needed, and he managed to earn some money.
He rented the land he cultivated to farmers in the village and collected some rent, leading a rather good life.
So when he came over, and the young lad introduced him like that, Durin figured this person was undoubtedly a sleeper agent from the sanctuary.
