Songjiang United Concession.
Zhu Wencong and Su Yanqiao stood on the deck, admiring the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River. At this time, Songjiang County (present-day Minxing District) was tightly encircled by the United Concession and the French Concession.
Su Yanqiao picked up her camera, focusing on a distant isolated city, its standing walls in stark contrast to the tall buildings of the concession.
Zhu Wencong was utterly fascinated. He had always heard about the city walls of the Imperial Capital and Songjiang; seeing them today was a feast for the eyes—truly spectacular and beautiful.
The ancient city wall of Songjiang was built in the 30th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1553), originally constructed to defend against Japanese pirate invasions, until the first year of the Republic when the demolition of the wall officially began.
