Chapter 38 - It Went Wrong

"Fi, my hands hurt a lot." Vexalia complained, massaging her knuckles, "Isn't the realm of the trial completely spiritual?" She questioned in confusion, "Yes, but when coming out you'll also remember how the pain feels." Fi explained.

That answer made Vexalia groan, but she was relieved that this was supposedly the lasttrial she had to do, and now she had gained a pair of earrings that would protect her from heat and fire.

Putting them on the relief from thje heat of the volcano was instantaneous, but now she didn't really know what to do, "Remember any place where these would be useful?" She asked her companion, "Near the entrance to the Earth Temple there was a cavern where the temperature alone made your skin burn mistress." Fi recalled.

Remembering made Vexalia shiver a bit, faininting due to heat stroke was not fun, but with the earrings it wouldn't be a problem, if they worked anyway, but either way she made her way up, reaching it quickly with the whips.

Walking to where the cavern was, one step in and the earrings activated, making Vexalia feel hot, but not burn, making her sigh in relief as she made her way forward, that is until she was met with another monster camp.

"Mistress, something is wrong." Fi warned, but could not give anymore information, "They're not burning after all." Vexalia pointed out, thinking that was it, so she quickly went to dispatch of the monsters, but was met with absolutely nothing, they remained still.

Waiting a bit more resulted in the same thing, the monsters wouldn't move, so Vexalia poked them with the sword, even making them bleed a bit, but still nothing, confusing the heroine a lot, however she couldn't dwell and went on.

Following the path, she still found more monsters that didn't move at all, furethering her confusion, but after a while she reached a wall made of fire, and it didn't look like the earrings could take that, "What's up rock?" A familiar voice called out.

Turning to see, Vexalia smiled at the sight of Gorko, "Wow it's been a few days!" She said as a greeting, "With how much we're traveling I'd call that an achievement." Gorko informed, turning to look at the flames too.

"Trying to get past too?" He asked curiously, "Yeah, got any clue?" Vexalia asked, "Only a riddle about satisfying the thirsty, so water is definetly part of it." Gorko explained, "It seems to be connected to faces like that one." He added, pointingto a face carved in the wall.

Inspecting it, Vexalia noticed that the expression it had looked parched, "I think this is the thirsty." She informed, making Gorko blink, "Wha- No... It couldn't possibly... Is it really that simple?" He wondered outloud.

Vexalia handed Gorko an empty bottle so they could look for water, and eventually found a small pool outside, where they filled the bottles and went to pour them in the face's mouth, making the fire go out, "Perfect! Now that one!" Gorko exclaimed, pointing to another face, which Vexalia gave to drink.

With all the obstacles removed, the two proceeded forward, only to be met with yet another fire wall, but this one was far bigger than the other two and guarding the entrance to a temple, "Managable I guess?" Vexalia commented, "I don't think so." Gorko responded, pointing above the wall, where the thirsty face was, but much bigger than the others.

"We need a lot of water." Gorko explained, looking at the bottle in his hand, "I don't think that'll work." Vexalia noted, taking the bottle back, "Definetly not, besides we can't get up there either way." Gorko added in annoyance.

Thinking of water made Vexalia think back a bit, to the Water Dragon, who has a basin full of water, "I got it!" She exclaimed, running off to a loftwing statue.

Later in the Sky.

"I'm still not happy with how you're talking to my sword." Vexalia told Scrapper who was carrying the basin, "Fi is my beloved! I want to show how much I love her<3" He responded, annoying Vexalia, but either way, they got to the opening to the Volcano and Vexalia dropped down.

Following behind, Scrapper looked around a bit, before noticing something from far away, "What is that?" He asked, prompting Vexalia to look in the direction of Faron Woods, and see darkness rising up, "I... I don't know." She replied in concern.

Looking carefully, the darkness suddenly exploded, pushing everything away, and making Vexalia veer off course and land at the bottom of the volcano, passing out too, but she could think.

In her mind Vexalia saw a huge beast of a humanoid creature, scaly like the imprisoned, but more human sized and with flaming hair, "What the-" Vexalia was saying, but suddenly, "Silence." It ordered, making the heroine involontarily shut up.

"...You hold a piece of the monster that betrayed me..." He said with anger in his voice, making Vexalia understand that this was the Harbringer of Demise, "However... You're not pure..." He added, raising his arm at her face and drawing out all the malice in her being.

The entire time Vexalia felt her mind breaking apart, being pushed under malevolent thought, until a shining light cleared everything up, "No... NOOOOO--!" The Harbringer screamed, but was silenced as his image was removed from Vexalia's mind.

Suddenly Vexalia woke up with a gasp and sat up, "What- where-" She stuttered, shivering in fear, before seeing Hylia looking over her, "It's okay, you're safe..." She reassured, hugging her 'daughter', making her stop shivering.
