Destiny's POV
I wanted nothing more than to go back to our table and pretend I hadn't heard a thing, but my pride wouldn't let me. And more than that, I didn't want to become the reason Red and Leo were laughed at, pitied, or questioned inside that elegant restaurant. I couldn't bear the thought of the curious stares or the whispered judgments.
So I slipped out quietly, making sure neither of them saw me leave. From the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of them—heads bowed in what looked like a serious conversation, unaware that I was already walking away. I didn't wait for them to notice. I couldn't.
As soon as I pushed open the heavy glass doors, I took off, my heels clicking hastily against the pavement until I reached the edge of the shore. I tore off my shoes, not caring where they landed, and ran barefoot onto the sand.
The cold grains burned under my feet, but I didn't stop.
