Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Nasty Remarks

Zuri sat in her room and finished her school assignments. She put on her hoodie, jeans, facemask and headphones before stepping out. She didn't forget to carry her phone, credit card and some cash with her.

Then, it happened.

"No, no, no." She twisted and turned the door nob. "I can't believe I locked myself out and the spare key was with mom. I have to go to her workplace to get it."

Zuri took a taxi and drove to a huge company. The Stardust Company was an international organisation that dealt with trade and creation of precious stones and rare jewels.

Her mom worked there, at least that's what she told her. She entered the large building and immediately felt out of place.

Men wore white and dark blue suits while women wore cream blouses and blue pencil skirts. She was the only wearing black allover and for some reason, the once noisy workplace had gone quiet.

'I haven't even done anything. Why are they staring at me like that?'

She remembered. 'I have to get out of here. If I don't change my clothes before he...'

"Who are you?"

Her body went numb as she turned around. A tall man stood before her with a cold expression. He had black hair and lazy silver-grey eyes. He wore all black just like her and seemed to look bored.

An alluring aroma of scent leaves and peonies caught her off guard. She was dazed by such calming yet hot scent. 'I feel like I'm suffocating. Something's happening to my body.'

She regained composure and bowed. "I am looking for Miss Maude Vesta. She works here." She said, her eyes indifferent.

"Sir, this child doesn't know." A brunette guy ran up and stood between them. "She would be leaving now."

The brownie with green eyes and glasses wore a cream suit and had a clipboard in his hand. It dropped as he separated the two.

A crowd had gathered and she heard their nasty remarks.

'That girl is black.'

'Eww gross. She even has the audacity to come here. Who does she think she is?'

'Foreigners have no respect in other people's land.'

'Poor girl. Look what you have done.'

'Looks at her eyes. I hope she doesn't have an infectious disease.'
