"Can we enter the City of Slaughter now?" Ye Feng asked.
The waiter snapped out of his shock.
However, Ye Feng's words weren't directed at the waiter, but toward the interior of the hotel.
After a short pause, a man emerged from the inner hall.
The man was middle-aged. He had witnessed everything that had happened in the tavern just moments ago.
He looked at the hotel waiter and said calmly, "Get out. No one is allowed to enter unless I say so."
The waiter, clearly terrified of his boss, nodded quickly, then walked out of the hotel and quietly closed the door behind him.
"Follow me," the man said.
Ye Feng and the others followed the man into a separate room.
It was a lavish room filled with luxurious items. The man walked up to a vase and gave it a twist.
Creak.
A shelf slowly slid to the side, revealing a narrow tunnel in the wall.
The entrance was only wide enough for one person at a time, and a wave of hot, humid air drifted out from within.
"Enter," the man ordered.
Ye Feng nodded and stepped into the passage first.
To enter the City of Slaughter, one must kill ten people. Only by offering enough blood could one gain entry to the City of Slaughter.
As they walked through the passage, they could feel the downward slope—it was leading underground.
After walking for about twenty minutes, a voice echoed from within.
"Welcome to the City of Slaughter!"
"This is the capital of hell!"
"Here, you can obtain everything you desire—at the cost of your life!"
As they moved forward, the space suddenly opened up before them.
A long bridge stretched out in front of Ye Feng.
Two neat rows of soldiers stood at attention on the bridge. On the other side loomed a black city, ominous and imposing. Above them hung a red "sun" in the sky, casting a strange glow over the entire space.
Since Ye Feng and the others had completed their entry trial and followed the City of Slaughter's rules, they were not intercepted by the Terror Knights and were permitted entry.
When Ye Feng and his companions reached the city gates, twenty-eight handsome men and beautiful women were already waiting there.
Each of these individuals walked up to one of Ye Feng's group and handed them a black iron token.
There was a skull engraved on it, along with a set of numbers underneath.
"9528," Ye Feng read aloud.
"Hello, I'll be your guide," the beautiful woman beside Ye Feng said with a smile. "Welcome to the City of Slaughter. For the next twelve hours, you'll be under the newcomer protection period. During that time, I'll answer all your questions. Once the twelve hours pass, you will officially become a resident of the City of Slaughter."
"How did the City of Slaughter come to be?" Ning Rongrong asked curiously.
"The City of Slaughter has existed for thousands of years," her guide replied. "Legend says that a powerful spirit master created this area after surpassing Rank 100. In this place, martial spirits can still be released, but spirit skills are restricted—you won't be able to use them."
"We can't use spirit skills?" Zhu Zhuqing asked.
"Correct. Your spirit power can still serve as your strength source," her guide confirmed.
"What about the rules?" Dugu Yan asked.
"There are no rules here," her guide replied. "In a sense, this place is a paradise of sin."
As they walked, Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, Dugu Yan, Meng Yiran, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, Hu Liena, and others began questioning their guides about the City of Slaughter.
From their explanations, they learned that the City of Slaughter was a one-way destination—one could enter, but never leave.
There were always foolish people who tried to escape, only to lose their lives in vain.
The City of Slaughter was ruled by the King of Slaughter.
Additionally, there was a law enforcement team comprised of spirit fighters granted the ability to use spirit skills by the King of Slaughter himself. It was impossible to escape from the same path one entered through.
There was only one way to leave this place—by becoming the champion of the Hell Slaughter Arena. Once you gained the right to challenge the Hell Road and successfully cleared it, you'd be granted the title of Death God.
"Death God..." Qian Renxue murmured softly.
Her grandfather had entrusted her to Ye Feng, all for the sake of obtaining the Death God domain—just like her mother, Bibi Dong.
However, in the past thousand years, there had only been eight who obtained the title of Death God in the City of Slaughter. The success rate was terrifyingly low.
Through the introductions from their respective guides, they also learned that the City of Slaughter was divided into an inner city and an outer city.
To live in the outer city, one had to hand over two cups of Blood wine per month to receive the King of Slaughter's protection.
The inner city, however, had no rules.
To earn the right to live in the inner city, one must win a match in the Hell SlaughterArena. Only then could they live in the inner city for one year and enjoy freedom.
As Qian Renxue, Ning Rongrong, and the others stepped into the inner city, the atmosphere shifted immediately.
The outer city was bleak and desolate.
The inner city, on the other hand, was lavish and prosperous.
But some of the things they witnessed were downright disturbing.
Just ahead, a man and a woman were shamelessly connected on the street, completely indifferent to those watching.
As the man was lost in his pleasure, the woman suddenly pulled out a dagger and slit his throat.
Even as his life drained away, she continued her act—and began sucking his blood.
"Cousin, do we really have to stay here for two years?" Ye Lingling asked, her brows furrowed in concern.
"I never asked you to follow me," Ye Feng said coldly.
Ye Lingling's heart trembled. She stared at Ye Feng with grievance.
She knew Ye Feng's heart was still wrapped in knots. He suspected that her parents had murdered his parents—just so she could awaken the Nine-Hearted Begonia spirit.
Though Ye Feng never directly said it, his attitude toward her made it clear he harbored doubts.
Ye Lingling stopped walking and gazed at Ye Feng's back.
What he didn't know was that she had already asked her parents about it.
They firmly denied any involvement in his parents' deaths. But of course, they had no proof to back it up either.
The Nine-Hearted Begonia Clan had a strange trait—there could only ever be two users of the Nine-Hearted Begonia spirit at any given time. A new one would only awaken after one died.
Ye Lingling's parents had also revealed something Ye Feng didn't know—that she and Ye Feng were engaged from childhood.
She was his fiancée.
But Ye Feng didn't know.
That was the reason Ye Lingling stuck close to him, even though she knew he blamed her family for his pain.
