"Finally we're here" I thought with a sigh while making my way towards the camps entrance with my 5 man squad following behind while watchman and guards were keeping a lookout for anything that can be deemed a threat.
"HALT." Said a white fat middle aged guard in armor with a spear in his right hand, blocking our path to enter.
The fat guard looked me up and down and then looked at my five squad members behind me and said with a congested but wary voice "State your name and position."
"What the hell can this fatty possibly do, they probably placed him as a guard so the high nobility could have time to escape if things went south since the fat on his body could be used as a shield and make him hard to kill" I thought calmly but really wanting to laugh in this fattys face but just sighed to calm myself down.
"My name is adan alfonso de niebla but you can address me as sir adan and these five people behind me are my squad members." I said calmly while looking up at the watchmen who were walking back and forth like they were taking turns to give each other a break.
The fat guard had a surprised look on his face and asked stutteringly while looking me up and down again "Y...your from the county of niebla."
"Indeed." I said calmly while seeing the fat guard's forehead crease and start forming beads of sweat.
"G...give me a second." Said the fat guard stutteringly and started speed walking away probably to go fetch his superior.
"FINALLY WE'VE ARRIVED." Said susana in a whiny voice which made me look at her and see her and the others exhausted look.
"I know right." Said martin, ana, xavier, and diego in unison with a tired but very loud sigh.
"I need to let them rest when we enter the camp otherwise they will die from exhaustion" I thought while looking at each and every one of them.
And while I was looking at each and every one of my five squad memebers I suddenly heard footsteps and a congested voice say in the distance "Sir this boy is from the county of niebla."
I looked at the entrance and seen the fat guard walking towards me with a white 6'0 old man who said calmly "Is that so, I'll see for myself then."
The fat guard and the old man arrived in front of me with the old man looking at me and my squad members behind me and said calmly "State your name boy."
I stared at the old man calmly for a moment and said "First I would like to know who you are and I've already stated who I was to this useless guard."
"YO…" Said the fat guard with rage, about to start defending his honor but was cut off by the old man's hand that raised and indicated for him to not speak a word or otherwise.
The old man put his hand back down and said calmly "You can address me as captain carreno now state your name and position."
"Well captain carreno you can address me as sir adan, do you need prove." I said calmly while taking my bag off my shoulder and about to start pulling out the paper from the king.
Captain carreno eyes widened in suprise and said with a sudden reassuring pleasing smile "Sir adan you actually arrived just in time, I did request for reinforcements."
"Enough of the flattery now let us through my squad is tired from battle and need to clean themselves and replenish their energy." I said calmly while looking back at my squad that looked like they were about to die just from standing alone.
Captian carreno coughed dryly and said while averting his eyes "Sorry to say sir adan but we don't have baths."
It became silent for a moment, only hearing the fat guards wheezing from his breathing and said calmly "I didn't ask if you have baths or not they can use a nearby lake now lead us to where we'll be staying."
"Yes, right this way." Said captain carreno with a smile while gesturing with his hands for me and my squad to follow.
I nodded and put my bag back on my shoulder and signaled for my squad to follow and started making my way through the gate, following behind captain carreno who was talking about the current situation of the war.
"The current situation of the war isn't looking so good beacuse the damned africans built a fortified city in the jungle and used dirty tactics they call gureilla warfare to weaken us and even forged alliances with pirates and indigenous tribes which complicated things for us when we tried to subdue them." Said captain carreno with a sigh, leading me towards the tent my squad members will be staying in.
I nodded calmly at what he said while covering my nose from the stench of the camp and looked around at the dirty solders with some injured ones being helped towards the medical tent and others throwing up blood and thought calmly "Disgusting"
"This is where your squad members will be staying and your tent is the one next to it." Said captain carreno with a flattering smile, gesturing to the bigger tent next to the ones my squad will be using.
"Thank you captain and you five are dismissed, get some rest." I said calmly while loooking at my five squad members who didn't even have the energy to complain about why my tent was bigger than there's and just started heading into the tent to get some rest like I ordered.
"I lost half of my squad so do you any men I could lead." I asked calmly while looking around and only seen injured or sickly soldiers in sight.
"We have more reinforcements coming, they should be arriving tomorrow." Said captain carreno with a tired sigh, feeling his pride as a captain crack a little from not being able to keep his men healthy and strong when needed in times like this.
"Is that so, hopefully they aren't as useless as what I've been witnessing so far." I said calmly while looking at some sickly soldiers and some who have missing limbs, indicating at what I meant by useless.
Captain carreno followed my line of sight and almost chocked on his own spit and said with a flattering smile "Sir adan I assure you that this will not be the case for the soldiers that are arriving."
"Then I'll take you up on your word." I said calmly while making my way into my tent.
(Captain carreno's POV)
Captian carreno immediately stooped smiling, watching me go into my tent and thought while making his way back towards the direction of his while looking at his sick soldiers with a determined look in his eyes "I will definitely win this war and bring victory to the empire"
(Adan's POV)
I sat down on my bed and sighed and thought calmly while checking out the things in my tent "Hopefully I survive this war, because I wouldn't even be here in the first place if my stepmother hadn't pulled some strings to get me to leave niebla but it's ok because while I'm here I have plenty of time to formulate plans that I may or may not need to inact"
"Yes this time will most definitely be worthwhile to formulate plans." I said calmly to myself with a wide grin while taking off my muddy boots, socks, and equipment and dropped them on the floor and laid back on the bed while closing my eyes, knowing tomorrow will be a busy but torturous day as I drifted off to dreamland.
