"WEEE!" a loud, happy child's voice shouted from above.
Both Fleur and Chanel, the veela friends, quickly looked up at the bright blue sky. They saw a very small girl holding tight to the thick mane of a beautiful, strong pegasus.
The winged horse soared through the air, carrying the little girl safely on his back. White wings beat powerfully against the wind.
The little girl looked like she was having the best fun ever. Her small eyes were wide open, shining with pure wonder as she looked down at the world below. And if you looked closely at the pegasus, you might think he had a proud, cheeky smile on his horse face.
"Z'ow off," Fleur breathed out, but she was smiling. She watched her little sister, Gabrielle, riding Percy the pegasus across the sky.
The demigod, still in his pegasus form, swooped down fast, getting closer to the ground. Then, he slowed his speed until his hooves touched the grass softly.
He walked like a normal horse for a few steps, then stopped right before a small crowd of people gathered on the path near the big school gates.
The group was a mix: the veela cheerleaders stood together, looking pretty. A few students from Gryffindor house were there, watching with interest.
Most of the watchers were kind-faced Hufflepuffs, and there were also some students from Beauxbatons, Fleur's school.
"Come," Chanel said to Fleur, rolling her eyes just a little bit. "We should go over. Make sure 'e does not stay flying with 'er for five more minutes." Fleur nodded, and the two friends walked over to join the waiting group.
"I want anozzer turn! Go again!" Gabrielle, or Gabby, cheered. She gave Percy's sides a little kick with her small feet.
Right away, Percy changed. The shape of the strong pegasus shimmered and shifted, and in a second, he was back to his normal human form. He quickly caught Gabby in his arms as she almost fell. "Non," Percy said, trying to sound tired. "Me tired."
Gabby giggled, safe in his arms. "Your French is so bad!" she told him.
"Oh?" Percy asked, lifting his eyebrows up and down in a funny way. "Would you like it better if I speak English?"
Gabby puffed out her cheeks. "You should not be mean! You are dating my sister, Fleur!"
Percy made a snorting sound, like a laugh. "And? What does that 'ave to do with anything?"
"It means you must be nice!" Gabby insisted, trying to look serious. "Or I will tell Fleur she cannot be with you! She listens to me. I am her sister!"
Percy put a hand over his heart, pretending to be shocked. "What?! But I saved your life!" he reminded her.
Gabby just huffed again, not caring. "So?"
Percy grumbled under his breath, looking down at her. "You cheeky little-"
"Perzy!" Fleur called out, stepping closer now. Her voice was teasing. "Is t'at any way you talk to a small c'ild?"
"Child?!" Percy gasped loudly, looking from Gabby to Fleur and back. "This is not a child! Zis is a little monkey!" As he said "monkey," he started tickling Gabby's tummy and sides with his fingers.
Gabby burst into loud, happy squeals and laughter. She wriggled and squirmed, trying very hard to get away from the tickling fingers, but Percy held her tight. "Okay, okay," Percy laughed too, "I 'ave to say, she is fun to tickle."
"Alrig't, Perzy. Zat is enough. Put 'er down now," Fleur said, her smile soft and warm. Percy gently set the still-giggling Gabby onto her feet. Fleur took her little sister's hand. "Say goodbye now, Gabi. It is time for you to go."
"But I only just meet him!" Gabby whined, her lower lip sticking out. "Please, Fleur? Please? Just one more ride? Just a little one? It was my dream my whole life to ride a pegasus! You always told me zey were just stories, just make-believe! But look! 'E can do it!" She pointed right at Percy.
Fleur knelt down a little. "Yes, Gabi, 'e can," she said softly. "But it 'as been a very long day, and Percy is tired now." She glanced at Percy, who gave a small nod. "I am sure you will see 'im again very soon. Zen you can ask 'im for all the rides you want, okay?"
Gabby's eyes lit up like little stars. "Really? You promise?!"
"Hey," Percy jumped in, a playful grin on his face. "Don't I get a little say in zis?"
Chanel lightly tapped Percy on the back of his head. "Be nice, Percy," she said, pretending to be cross. "She is just a little kid."
Percy grumbled again, rubbing his head but still smiling. "I was just teasing 'er."
"Tell everyone goodbye, Gabi," Fleur told her sister gently but firmly. "It is time I took you back home now. And you must remember to tell Mama and Papa all about what 'appened today, yes?"
"Okay!" Gabby nodded quickly. She turned back to the group watching them. A big, happy smile spread across her face as she waved her tiny hand back and forth very fast. "Bye bye! I will see you again soon, horsey!"
Percy grumbled one more time, loud enough for her to hear. "My name is Percy!"
Gabby just giggled again as Fleur started leading her away across the grass. As they walked off, Percy looked into the distance. He saw the very tall shape of Madame Maxime, the Beauxbatons headmistress.
Standing next to her was a graceful woman with blonde hair and pretty features, much like Fleur's. Percy guessed right away that must be Fleur's mother.
He took a quiet breath. He really didn't feel like he had the energy or the nerve to meet his girlfriend's mother right at that moment. Not after everything. So, for now, he just watched them go and let it be.
"Alright, Percy, now it is my turn!" Amanda shouted with a grin. She took a little run and jumped right onto Percy's back, wrapping her arms tight around his neck like she was riding a pony. "Fly, horsey, fly!"
Percy grumbled, shifting his weight under her. "Oh, come on now," he complained, sounding really tired. "Do I really 'ave to do this again? I am tired, you know. It was a very long day."
"Tsk tsk, Mr. Jackson," a teasing voice cut in. It was Hecate, standing nearby with a mean little smile playing on her lips. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "What a bad lie that is. I seem to remember you are the same young man who found the energy to... well... be with not just one, but five very pretty-"
"-Silencio!" Percy cried out fast. He quickly pulled out his wand, gave it a sharp flick towards Hecate, and shut her mouth tight. Just like that, no sound came out.
The goddess blinked, looking truly surprised. She raised one eyebrow high, asking him 'why?' without words. Percy smirked back, looking pleased with himself.
"See, Hecate?" he said, his voice dripping with fake sweetness. "Now you, a squib someone from a magic family who cannot do magic cannot talk. Why? Because you 'ave no magic to break my spell. Is that not right?"
Hecate's eyes narrowed. She thought for a quick second, then let out a silent grumble and angrily flipped Percy the middle finger. She knew she could not use her real powers here, not without showing everyone who she really was. Percy had trapped her.
Percy's smirk got wider. "Good. Very good. Glad we 'ave that sorted out."
"Finite Incantatem," another voice called out clearly. It was Harry. He lowered his own wand, and Hecate suddenly gasped, able to speak again.
"Oh, thank you, Harry dear," Hecate said quickly, giving Harry a bright, thankful smile.
"Harry!" Percy called out, sounding very annoyed now. "Why did you do that?"
The fourteen-year-old boy just shrugged his shoulders, looking a bit sheepish but also curious. "Well," Harry said simply, "I wanted to know what she was going to say."
"Oh, we all know what she was going to say," began Fred Weasley, stepping forward with a grin.
"-She was about to tell everyone the famous story! The ballad of the stud king of Hogwarts!" finished his twin brother, George, jumping in right beside him.
"Oh no, not this song again," Percy groaned loudly, letting his head hang low in pure embarrassment. He looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up.
"What is this about zen?" Chanel asked, looking confused. She tilted her head, glancing between the twins and Percy.
"They made up a silly song about Percy," Hermione explained quietly, looking a little red in the face herself.
"A song?" Amanda asked, still sitting comfortably on Percy's back. She leaned forward a bit. "About what?"
Fred puffed out his chest and started to sing loudly, like a town crier: "He was a mighty man, you know! The high stud king of young!"
George joined in, just as loud, maybe even adding a little dance step: "He had dashing good looks and a mighty… well… thing! All the girls said zey had never seen bigger! Oh, the mighty stud king of young!"
Fred took the next part: "He did many a great deed! Fought a big scary dragon and saved a good friend in need! Many skills did he possess, oh yes! But none more famous than the skill in his bed!"
Percy groaned again, louder this time, and hid his face in his hands. "It is about you guys," he mumbled, looking quickly towards the veela cheerleaders through his fingers. Their pretty faces were starting to look less amused and more… ticked off. Their smiles were gone.
George sang the next lines with extra energy: "He was with not one girl, nor two, nor three! But five! Yes, five beautiful babes!"
Fred added the dramatic twist: "But such a man of honor is he, he never gave his heart away! Until the day a lass returned, and gave the poor king a big fight! A child she had, she said was his own! But alas! It was all a big fake, though she did nearly break his brain! The mighty young king of studs yeep!"
George's singing suddenly turned into a sharp yell as a bright orange fireball zipped right past his head, missing his ear by maybe an inch!
Everyone turned. The veela cheerleaders were changing. Feathers ruffled along their arms, their eyes glowed with an angry, bird-like light, and flickering balls of fire danced in their hands.
Catherine, their leader, stepped forward. Her face was fierce, and a low hiss came from her throat. "No one," she snarled, her voice dangerously low, "disrespects us like zat!"
"Hit the hills, boys! Run!" Hecate suddenly yelled, her earlier teasing completely gone, replaced by real panic.
"When veelas get properly pissed off, things get very hot! And trust me, it is not in the sexy way!" She gathered her long dress clumsily in her hands and started running as fast as she could towards the big stone castle.
Others started to shout and scatter too.
BOOM!
