Chapter 318 - Time for more
Seeing Vali and Bikou emerge from the spatial passage, Kuroka, Arthur, and Le Fay were stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief.
They never imagined the White Dragon Emperor, their squad's strongest, in such a state.
Vali, capable of escaping even seasoned transcendents, was now on the brink of death.
Arthur and Kuroka exchanged a glance, their shared shock and confusion evident.
They needed to know what had happened at the tripartite meeting to reduce Vali to this.
"Vali…" Le Fay murmured, her gaze filled with sympathy.
"Let's save him," Bikou said, gently setting Vali down, his face etched with lingering fear. "I don't want him dying after all that effort to save him."
Arthur nodded, retrieving a small pen box from his sleeve.
Inside was a delicate crystal vial containing a glowing red liquid—Phoenix Tears, a rare global treasure said to save anyone not yet dead with a single drop.
In the anime, when Hyoudou Issei was nearly killed by Fenrir's bite during a battle with Loki, Phenex Tears saved him.
For a team like Vali's, constantly courting danger, such a healing item was essential.
Yet, none expected Vali, the least likely to need it, to be its first recipient.
Arthur poured the liquid onto Vali's body. It absorbed instantly, seeping into his skin. Vali's faint breathing steadied, his life force returning.
"He's in bad shape," Arthur said, shaking his head. Phenex Tears typically healed instantly, as seen with Issei's recovery in the plot.
But Vali's wounds, though mending, didn't rouse him immediately, underscoring their severity.
Mahiro's attack, aimed to kill, had pushed Vali to his limits. Surviving it was a mix of strength and sheer luck.
Unlike Issei's flesh wound, Vali's injuries—severed meridians and drained vitality—were far graver, beyond Phenex Tears' usual miracles.
Seeing Vali still unconscious, Kuroka and Le Fay applied healing magic.
Their soft light, combined with the Phenex Tears, accelerated recovery. Vali's condition stabilized, and he opened his eyes.
"You…" Vali rasped, seeing Kuroka and the others. He shook his head, the brush with death leaving him uneasy. Propping himself up, he said, "Thanks."
"That was too close," Bikou said, his tone lighter but still shaken. Rescuing Vali from the Three Factions' leaders and Mahiro had been a gamble.
Azazel's intervention had been their only shot, or he might not have escaped Kuoh Academy unscathed.
Vali nodded.
"What happened?" Arthur asked gravely. "How did you get so injured?"
"Yeah, Vali," Kuroka teased, her playful smirk masking concern. "First time we've seen you this roughed up."
"Did you challenge all three faction leaders at once?" she asked, half-serious. In her eyes, Vali's battle-hungry nature might've driven him to do something reckless at such a gathering.
"Where's Katerea and the others?" Arthur asked, noting the absence of the four Old Satan descendants.
"No," Vali said, exasperated by their skeptical looks. Did they think he was that reckless? "It was the Red Dragon Emperor."
He glanced at them, adding, "Katerea and Creuserey were killed by Azazel and the others."
Shock crossed their faces, except for Bikou, who already knew.
"As expected," Arthur said, his expression tightening. "Even with Ophis' power, Katerea and Creuserey couldn't handle the faction leaders."
"But you, losing to the Red Dragon Emperor…" Arthur trailed off, stunned.
He'd assumed any gap between the Two Heavenly Dragons would be minimal, especially with Vali as the strongest White Dragon Emperor ever.
"This generation's Red Dragon Emperor is exceptional," Vali admitted, taking a deep breath.
"I gave him credit before, but I still underestimated him."
