Kakashi sighed as he stood in the open training field, arms crossed, his visible eye lazily scanning the surroundings. The morning had turned into a full-fledged battle, but now his students had vanished once again.
He had been patient at first, giving them a chance to come out. But now, he was getting tired of waiting.
"Alright, I suppose it's time to wrap this up…" He muttered and took a step forward.
Whoosh!
The sound of swift movement sliced through the air.
In the next second, Naruto and Sasuke appeared from the foliage, standing confidently before him.
Kakashi's eyes widened slightly when he noticed Sasuke's left eye.
A two tomoe spun in his Sharingan.
So… he had awakened it already?
Sasuke's face remained impassive, but his fists clenched at his sides, determination burning in his gaze.
Naruto, however, simply smirked. "Surprised, Kakashi-sensei?"
Kakashi sighed. "You brats really don't make this easy, do you?"
Naruto grinned. "It's about to get even harder. Let's go!"
Shadows and Flames
Naruto surged forward first, hands flashing through a familiar seal.
"Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!"
POOF! POOF! POOF! POOF! POOF!
Five clones burst into existence, surrounding Kakashi in a tight formation.
"Hmph." Kakashi's eyes darted between them, calculating the best course of action. But the moment he moved the clones attacked, charging at him.
A flurry of fists, kicks, and rapid strikes bombarded Kakashi from all angles. He blocked a punch from the left, dodged a sweeping kick from the right, and ducked under an elbow strike aimed at his head.
They're getting faster. More aggressive.
Kakashi shifted backward, looking for an opening.
Naruto smirked. Got you.
His clones subtly directed Kakashi's movements, forcing him to step in a specific direction.
Kakashi barely had time to register it before Kunai came flying in from the trees, forcing Kakashi to dodge mid-air.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
"Earth Style: Hiding Like a Mole Jutsu!"
Kakashi suddenly sank into the ground, vanishing in an instant.
"Damn it!" Naruto clicked his tongue. But before he could react the ground shook.
Rumble
Naruto grinned. Perfect.
He quickly raised his hand.
Sakura and Sasuke, hidden in the bushes, immediately took the signal.
Kakashi emerged from the ground, aiming to grab Naruto's leg.
But Naruto was ready.
"Sage Jutsu: Earth Shatter!"
With chakra-enhanced strength, he slammed his fist into the ground.
BOOM!
The impact was devastating. The ground cracked open, sending Kakashi flying into the air.
Naruto's clones leaped after him, attacking mid-air.
"Sasuke, now!"
Sasuke's hands flashed through the seals.
Serpent → Ram → Monkey → Boar → Horse → Tiger
"Fire Style: Grand Fireball Jutsu!"
A massive fireball roared to life, spiraling toward Kakashi.
Kakashi twisted mid-air, eyes sharpening.
That's when Sakura made her move.
"Go!" Naruto signaled.
Sakura hurled kunai laced with explosive tags straight into the fire.
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion rocked the air, flames swallowing Kakashi whole.
Smoke billowed in thick clouds.
"Did we get him?" Sakura asked, panting.
Naruto's eyes narrowed. "No."
Sasuke tensed. "Where is he—"
Thud!
Something fell from the sky.
A burnt tree log.
Naruto clenched his fists. "Damn it. Substitution Jutsu."
"Sakura..."
A chilling whisper came from behind.
Sakura froze.
Kakashi stood right behind her, his Sharingan spinning ominously.
His fingers moved toward her temple.
"Genjutsu—"
Whoosh!
A gust of wind ripped through the air.
A shadow blurred behind Kakashi.
Naruto's kick landed squarely on Kakashi's side, sending him crashing away.
"Back off!" Naruto barked, signaling Sakura to retreat.
Sasuke arrived a breath later.
"Tch." Kakashi wiped his mouth, looking at the two of them. "You two really are something else."
Naruto smirked. "We're not done yet."
"Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!"
POOF! POOF! POOF! POOF!
Five more clones surrounded Kakashi in an instant.
"Hmm…" Kakashi muttered, eyeing their positions. "This formation..."
He observed the clones carefully.
They weren't attacking randomly. They were in a pattern.
"Naruto…" Kakashi asked curiously. "Where did you learn this formation?"
Naruto grinned. "I came up with it myself."
He charged forward again, leading the clones in an aggressive assault.
Kakashi knew he was being led somewhere.
He flicked his gaze around and then he saw it.
A thin wire stretched near his foot.
Kakashi smirked. "Trying to lead me into a trap, huh?"
Naruto's face twitched slightly.
"Shit…"
Kakashi jumped high into the air, completely avoiding the trap.
"Hmph. Nice try—"
TIC!
A tiny sound echoed in the air.
Kakashi's face froze.
"What—"
Whoosh!
A hidden rope snapped upward, catching Kakashi's ankle in mid-air.
His body was yanked upside down, spinning before coming to a sudden stop.
"W-What the—"
Sasuke and Sakura rushed in.
With perfect coordination, Sasuke grabbed one of the bells while Sakura placed her finger on the rope's release trigger.
TRIIINNGGG!!!
The lunch bell rang loudly.
"Mission complete!"
Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura cheered together, holding up the two bells.
Kakashi hung upside down, staring at them in shock.
"I… lost…?"
Silence...
Then, Naruto leaned forward, smirking. "Looks like we passed, sensei."
Sasuke crossed his arms. "Hn. Not bad for a bunch of 'juniors,' huh?"
Sakura giggled. "You did say teamwork was the most important thing, right?"
Kakashi sighed, his eye twitching. "I was planning to make an epic speech at the end of this, but…"
Naruto grinned. "Too bad. We win."
Kakashi sulked. "I really lost to a bunch of kids…"
And so, Team 7's true journey began.
The air was calm. The intense battle had left the trio slightly tired but victorious.
Kakashi, however, led them to a different destination.
The Memorial Stone!
The small, monument stood silently in the clearing, its surface engraved with the names of countless fallen shinobi. It was a place of remembrance, a place of loss.
Kakashi walked ahead of the trio, his movements slow and deliberate. Stopping before the stone, he gazed at it with an unreadable expression.
Softly, he murmured, "Looks like this bunch already honors your words, Obito…"
A gentle breeze swept through the area.
For a moment, Kakashi was no longer standing in the present.
His mind drifted back.. To a time when he was young. To the battlefield of the Kanabi Bridge during the Second Great Ninja War. To the day he lost everything.
He remembered Rin's desperate cry for help. The enemy had captured her, yet he, the team leader, had prioritized the mission over saving her.
Obito, however, had not hesitated.
"Those who break the rules are scum… but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum!"
Obito had fought fiercely, disregarding the mission entirely. But in the end, Kakashi had lost him too.
He closed his eyes, reliving the painful memory once more.
