In the midst of her sleep, the sound of a baby's cries echoed. Qin Yuji struggled to open her eyes, but despite her efforts, it felt as though her eyelids were weighted with lead and refused to budge.
She didn't know how much time had passed when a man's gentle voice began singing a lullaby by her ear.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are…"
The voice was etched into her heart, the most familiar and trustworthy sound she knew. The worry in Qin Yuji's heart slowly eased, returning to its rightful place, and soon, she drifted back into a deep sleep.
When she woke again, three days had gone by.
As Qin Yuji opened her eyes, the room was bathed in an incredibly soft light. Yet, despite the gentle brightness, her eyes still felt unaccustomed, a bit overwhelmed.
She raised her hand to shield her eyes and slowly opened them again, finally realizing that everything around her was so familiar.
