It took Donny a few minutes to hack the keypad. Yeah, unfortunately we weren't given that info. Meanwhile, the rest of us kept watch even though there was no need for it.
"I almost got it," Donny announced.
He was typing into the digital screen and having it automatically try all possible combinations. Though it was quite a simple process it still took sometime to finish. Donny knew what he was doing and I trusted him. Marie and Tarius felt the same way I felt.
"Okay, got it," Donny said and opened the door to the service area.
Through the door were spotlights lighting up a cave entrance. Similar to the one by the underground river but it was way more vast. It was very large and there were several stairs and walkways going to select areas in the cave. We tread along the metal walkway going toward another door several metres away.
The digital display of part of the suit on my forearm lit up showing dangerous levels of radiation nearby and the effects of the radiation was starting to take course, so I put on the nanite suit completely to shield me from the radiation. The suit began decontaminating me though I didn't require that. My body healed in a minute.
I can handle the radiation myself but it was to dangerous to continue as it would have made me a bit sluggish and incapable of moving. It has some damaging effects on me like any human.
We got to another door that was keypad protected which Donny had to deal with as well. After he hacked it we were met with a stairwell that took us all the way down to the sub-level ten. It was dimly lit which said a lot as there were more bodies which were bloodied.
"What the fuck happened here?" Marie asked.
"It seems we aren't the only ones down here," I said.
"Are there demons down here with us?" Donny asked.
"If there were they would've concealed themselves well, but these bodies have bullet holes in them,"
"So, there are other people down here with us?" Marie asked.
"These are a few days old, aren't they Marie. So it means whatever happened here happened at that time and whoever or whatever was here is gone." I said.
"No, these are pretty fresh Captain, just like those in the lobby and whoever did this may have left or is still here." Marie stated.
What she said was valid to point out, maybe I was wrong about how long the bodies have been here. We made it to a door at sub-level ten and we used the keycard to acquire entrance through the metal doors. We walked into a decontamination room which was to decontaminate us from the radiation.
I turned my suit into a backpack to give myself a bit more freedom. Another metal door opened out to a corridor. It split into three paths; a path to our left, another to our right and the last straight in front of us. Donny opened up the schematics once more and directed us to where the inoperable dimensional gate was.
The facility looked like those from movies or Resident Ev*l or something very similar to it. After a few turns we got to a metal door that was closed shut. It was peculiar since the facility was not under any lockdown or any protocol to keep whatever was inside there. Making it the only closed door.
There wasn't anyway of opening it through a keypad or ID card reader. Due to the lack of such convenience, I took it upon myself to open the door with my hands. I had to put my fingers in the mullion of the door to push it apart. It was sealed tight, so it would've been daunting to pry it open with just my bare hands.
I tried out an idea I had just to test the waters, so I took out some nanites out from the backpack and had the small piece form into a knife. Then I wedged the knife into the mullion and tried to pry it just a bit to get my fingers in between. I tried but it only proved futile as the nanite knife broke under the pressure of the doors and being forced as a lever to separate the doors just a bit.
'Well looks like this won't be tested but maybe Donny's dagger may be of use' I thought and asked Donny to borrow me the dagger and he tossed it to me, I caught it and wedged it in the mullion of the doors. I then quickly placed my fingers in between and started exerting force pushing the panels of the door apart. It was a bit tough as the was likely stuck closed which caused some resistance to be felt.
I had the door open as wide as my shoulder width and was met with a young lady holding a short-gun aimed at my chest. The next moment I was on the floor lying on my back in pain and bullet wound on my chest. The effort I made opening the door was erased as it closed up again. "Captain!" Marie shouted rushing to my aid.
"Shit! Ahh! I didn't expect that," I said in pain.
"I think we need to find another way to get to the dimensional gate," Tarius stated.
"I looked at the schematics and this is the only door in the way to the dimensional gate. Any other route would take more than necessary time to get to it. In other words this is the shortest path we can take without delaying the mission," Donny retorted.
Tarius grunted a bit while I was getting my wound dealt with by Marie. But my body gradually healed making her aid unnecessary. Though my body can repair itself autonomously, I can't say the same for the shirt I had on now I got a wonderful bullet hole in it.
I got up on my feet and asked Tarius with the door since I am not sure if that young lady is still behind it. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked a bit concerned about it happening again. It is exactly why I asked for his aid in the first place because I don't want to take another bullet to the chest again or maybe even worse.
I picked up Donny's dagger from the floor and pried the door once more and Tarius grabbed a hold of one side and I did the same on the other side and we pulled it apart. Again the door provided some resistance however we overcame that resistance.
Marie and Donny had the electric pistols in hand to immobilise her. There was no need for the measure for she was not there anymore. She must have heard our conversation from the otherside of the door and fled but that doesn't seem to be the case because the door had a thickness of fifteen centimetres. That's barely even thick enough for her to hear us.
I put that thought aside for my mind to deal with it and we proceeded to travel through the facility for the gate.
I had spotted someone in the room who looked familiar and I chased them without my teams knowledge and was led into a room that locked behind me and saw myself outside with demons waiting for my arrival. I went on to clear them out without my teams aid and I held out my hand for Titan Slayer to appear and I would wield it to kill the demons.
