For a brief moment, pain can induce a heightened state of alertness and awareness, helping an individual remain conscious during emergencies. However, when this state persists for an extended duration, it can increase the likelihood of fainting.
Kevin, an experienced surgeon, was painfully aware of the harsh reality surrounding him, igniting a fierce urge to unleash a string of curses.
"Why hasn't this vehicle stopped yet?" He fumed internally.
"I should never have placed my trust in those police officers. Curses! It seems that law enforcement is the same everywhere, always arriving too late."
He resolved that once he escaped this predicament, he would certainly voice his grievances about the country's protective services to the international media.
As he reflected on the police officers who should have accompanied David on his rescue mission, frustration bubbled within him.
His throat and body throbbed painfully from the incessant cries and the futile battering against the cages that remained immovable.
He could feel himself fading into unconsciousness again, and this time, the pain offered no solace.
BANG
Just as he was on the verge of drifting off to sleep, the entire vehicle jolted violently, as if it had slammed into a wall.
The cage, which had remained completely still and undamaged until that moment, suddenly surged forward with such force that it crashed into another cage.
Within the confines of his cage, Kevin felt a sharp pain as his head was violently thrown against the unforgiving metal bars. The unexpected impact left him bleeding, a stark reminder of the lack of safety and control he had in that chaotic moment.
Before Kevin could move or let out a painful grunt, suddenly he felt as if the whole world had lost its gravity, and when he looked around with his sleep-induced, slightly opened eyes, the view of his own body along with the whole cage floating at an impressive height of almost one foot above the ground appeared in front of him.
"Now, this is definitely going to hurt a lot," Kevin thought.
BAM
Those were his last thoughts before he completely lost every sliver of consciousness.
***************************
David has an ominous feeling after listening to the masked man's words because he has read the reports about this organization that burns their trucks and then commits suicide with not even a slight fear of death, regardless of how precious their products are, only to keep their tracks hidden.
He tried to move, forced his muscles, but remained unsuccessful.
Looking at the bulging veins on the face of David, the masked man punched David straight in his face.
"Stop trying, you bastard."
Punch
"My poison is not so weak that even an arrogant youngster like you can break it."
Punch
"Understand?"
Punch
"Ok?"
Punch
"Answer me?"
punch
"Oh! I forgot you cannot speak while poisoned."
punch
"You should have said it."
Looking at David's face, which was almost disfigured due to several broken teeth, bleeding lips, swollen cheeks and eyes, along with several bleeding injuries, the masked man felt satisfied.
If possible, he would have loved to fix a direct appointment with death in the most brutal way possible for David, but rules of his own organization had chained his hands.
"Enjoy my show," he leaned a little forward while saying this in a mocking tone.
The masked man moved aside from the David face but kept his head upside by grabbing his hair to give him a better view of the show that was going to unfold.
For a normal person it would have been quite hard to look at the truck, which had crossed quite a lot of distance from their position, but it does not affect them much because both David and the masked man are evolved humans of the second level with their senses at the peak of a human body.
In front of David's eyes, the constantly moving truck suddenly took a turn toward the concrete barriers.
His eyes widened in understanding.
He strained his muscles to move, but nothing happened.
The clouds in the sky had cleared, no longer obstructing the light of the moon from giving a clear view. He could feel several emotions at once: helplessness, desperation, and anger, but nothing helped him, nothing supported him, neither his body nor his will.
The winds roared, and sea waves clashed against the shore with much more ferocity, but nothing affected him because he could feel what was about to come and how utterly defeated he was to do nothing but watch when he suffered this loss.
Under the observation of his desperate eyes, the truck slammed straight into the concrete barriers.
For a moment he kept a little hope in his heart that this barrier would hold the truck, but even that hope was extinguished when even the sturdy-looking barrier crumbled under the force of the truck.
Then it did not stop; instead, it kept moving after facing the impact and fell straight into the sea.
Despite watching everything, David still hoped, a very small, little flame of hope that maybe, just maybe, his best friend had survived, but as if the whole world were hell-bent on tearing his friend away from his life,a deafening explosion erupted, sending shockwaves through the ocean and causing the waves to crash violently against the force of the blast.
The entire edge of the highway crumbled, leaving behind a trail of destruction and deep fissures in the road.
The sky is ablaze with hues of orange and crimson, a violent testament to the devastation unfolding before David's eyes. The fire roars, devouring the truck's remains, but what haunts him most is knowing it has also consumed his best friend— more than a brother, more than family.
The blast had shattered the silence, a deafening eruption that carved its mark into the night, and now, all that remains is the inferno raging in its wake. Flickering embers swirl upward, dancing like ghostly reminders of the life lost within the flame.
David remained frozen, breath shallow, muscles rigid, unable to move. His mind refuses to grasp the reality that the fire has stolen something he cannot ever retrieve. He felt pain, so much pain his eyes blurred on their own.
He didn't know why, but breathing felt harder for some reason. He wished to scream, but his mouth did not move, and before he knew it, streams of tears had burst out from his eyes.
Looking at the line of tears on David's face, the masked man felt a twisted sense of satisfaction, so much that he could not control his mouth from speaking.
"Ooh, don't be so sad. isn't he just a tool to you."
"There are plenty of tools like your friend in your family army, so you should just pick a new one from it, ok?"
His tone was filled with glee and mockery toward David.
David's head snapped toward the masked man, his eyes had gotten crimson, and he gritted his teeth with such intensity that they almost broke.
Anger, extreme anger.
It is the only emotion that clouded David's thinking the moment he heard the masked man's words.
He wanted just one chance, just one hope to move, and he was ready to do everything in his capacity or even beyond it to make sure this bastard died by his hand.
"How dare he?"
"'he' who killed my brother and is still making fun of his death"
"How dare he call my best friend a tool, to compare him with those servants?"
CRUNCH
AAAAAAH
BAM
David's head moved with such ferocity that the difference between him and a beast became hard to differentiate.
The masked man did not get enough time to understand how David was able to move his head while being under the effect of poison before David sank his teeth into his hand and took a large chunk of flesh out.
When the pain registered in the masked man's brain, he could not control his scream while kicking David away from himself.
When he looked at his hand carefully, he became horrified to find that three of his fingers had been ripped off his hand while his pinky finger had become half of its size.
Before the masked man could retaliate, the sound of choppers reached his ears; his head snapped toward the sky, where four choppers were coming toward their position with extreme speed.
"sh#t"
The masked man knows that reinforcements from the David family have come, and staying at his current position for even a single second is like signing his death certificate, so he looks toward David one last time, who is also looking at him with his mouth still clutching the man's fingers.
The masked man felt a chill on his back while looking at David's eyes, which were no longer filled with tears but with blood falling from his eyes, so instead of hitting David, which he originally intended, he just started running toward the concrete barricade with intentions of his own.
"I will kill you."
"I swear I will kill you."
"You son of a b##ch."
The masked man can hear David's screams, but instead of stopping or replying through his words, he just raised his left hand and flashed him a middle finger before jumping into the sea by crossing the barricade.
