Chapter 106 - Rampant Chimera

When Theef had absorbed the body of another race, he could shift his body to that of the humanoid race that came with each consumption.

When he consumed meibeasts, he transformed into an Imeni instead of the particular beasts he absorbed the mei veins from.

When he consumed the spirit organs of the beasts on Lokhil, he transformed into a Shetavi again instead of a beast counterpart.

He had wondered himself how his body was incapable of becoming that of a beast, but he considered it a limitation based on his own race.

Originally, the Theif race were treasure grubbers that were solely intertwined with the usage of artifacts and the like to fight.

They were intelligent and adaptable for the sake of victory in all their battles.

And battle they did.

Theef remembered how during his childhood he was surrounded by ferocious family that barely even slept when it came to finding treasures.

They stole from and laid waste to all in their path with the adept skills and firepower of the amassed treasures they gained with the help of a familiar plant.

Indeed, the Theif race used the Divining Bean Sprout to infiltrate known areas of rare treasures even if they were already in use by other races.

The home planet of the Theif was a fruitful one with all the resources to make sure that with the intelligence of the race they immediately sought other places to pillage.

That was not to say that they all got along though.

Before they had the idea to reach outside the reaches of their planet, the Theifs had only each other to be jealous of— to steal from and plot against.

For as long as they lived up to a certain point there was only sabotage and carnage.

This was until the smartest and strongest of them all knew that the treasures of their planet would not be enough to satiate their hunger for more.

They used the bountiful resources of the Theif Planet to secure interstellar travel and began the universes greatest heists.

No longer pointing their weapons at each other, Theef's family carried their divining bean sprouts and went wild.

They were innately one of the stronger humanoid races and that only bolstered their newfound place among the universe's races.

Already having undergone civil wars against their own, the warriors of the Thief race could wield their weapons well and each time they struck, they left nothing of value behind— even going as far as enslaving some of the races for profit.

All while this went on, Theef knew from a young age that his family would not last if they went on as they did.

It was not as if he too did not enjoy the thrill of taking valuables from others who were unworthy of keeping them, but the wanton attacks on certain groups would only lead to the ire of others when faced with a group that took pleasure in plundering other's things.

As such, Theef chose to separate himself from the undertakings of his 'family business'.

He enjoyed the process of stalking his prey before effortlessly making off with his spoils.

In the Theif lifestyle, what you earned yourself was what you had to make do with, so for Theef since a young age he was only left with scraps.

He accepted that how he operated was not going to be as luxurious as his peers and family, but his instincts always screamed danger for the typical Theif lifestyle.

He honed these instincts over time, and they ended up saving his life in the end as he remained distant to his people when they were reduced to just their belongings.

They popularized the divining bean sprout among the universe which would have already been enough for the whole race to live off of for life, but greed led them to meet a gruesome fate.

By the time Theef was informed of his people's demise, he had already grown used to being alone and found himself scraping by to feed himself when he was not seeking the next treasure for his collection.

But now, Theef was allowed to roam free without fear of a lonesome hunt with the backing of the crew— Null in particular.

His best friend would not let him suffer the slightest injustice were he to induce the ire of a foreign party.

He had the son of the cosmos itself by his side and those that would join them along the way.

Taking on these quests and growing stronger little by little was already enough for him, but he inherited his people's greed.

So, when facing the bandits on top of the hover train he knew his back was secured as long as Null was around.

Making a friend like him was the best decision of his life because now the last of the Theif race would make a comeback.

Immediately he accessed the group across from him as he rampantly charged forth unworried of the outcome.

A total of five immortal level opposition.

Two of them raised their arms and fired off ranged attacks; one of them was arrows made of blood and the other was eggs.

Needless to say, the attacks were easily blocked by each of the crew with minimal effort.

Theef spat a plume of saliva, melting the attacks aimed at him, Klein shot rocks in retaliation, and Z'oelo swiped his sword-bat.. bat-sword... Muni's physical form.

This served to show the opponents that they were not playing around as the rest of them took action.

By the time they readied themselves, Theef was among them.

He channeled his frost aura to slow them slightly, utilized the physical enhancements and covered his tendrils in armored skin and whipped the bandits silly.

The three bandits that had yet to fight back before they were barraged with more attacks from Klein and Z'oelo.

One of them seemed to have the ability to generate force from his fists as he slammed them against Theef's tendrils, bypassing the armor.

"Argh! Bastard!"

Theef promptly retracted his injured tendrils, but condensed the chilling aura onto the one bandit.

'Shit! This guy's crazy!'

"Focus on the pink guy!" He shouted while putting his dukes up.

There was still two bandits that had yet to showcase their abilities while Klein bombarded them with his manipulation of the elements.

He shot fireballs and earth spikes primarily to gain the bandits' attention for his crewmates to fill in the gaps.

Z'oelo reached the first bandit that was closest to him and laid a swift beating on him.

Theef cut the bullshit and straight up barfed a slough of acid onto the slowed bandit which curtly ended his life tragically.

"Ahhh!"

The bandits shrieked after seeing the strongest of them being melted into a sloppy mess.

That was the beginning of the end as the rest of the bandits were struck by Kleins casts— one pierced through the head by a stone spike— and sliced apart by Z'oelo's swordsmanship.

Witnessing this from the sidelines, the bandits on the getaway motorbikes wanted to leave.

Unfortunately for them, the two on the backside of things took care of them.

Barter's Ruler crushed those on the left side of the hover train and gave Null a chunk of gold to throw at the motorbike on the right.

"Right then. That takes care of that."

Another mission was completed.
