Chapter 123 - The Price of Valor (120)

As the night deepened, most of the group had surrendered to exhaustion, their bodies seeking refuge in sleep. The fire crackled softly, its embers glowing like tiny fallen stars, while the vast sky above stretched endlessly, adorned with countless shimmering lights. Yet, beneath this celestial expanse, two souls remained awake. Starfania found herself drawn to Atlas, his silent presence beside her brought comfort. As the cool night breeze carried a quiet serenity, and in a voice barely louder than a whisper, she asked, " Hey, Atlas. "

He shifted slightly, midnight eyes gleaming in the moonlight like a polished sapphire. His gaze sent a shiver through her–not of fear, but of something deeper, something unspoken yet understood. " You know I will never understand why you chose me to be the Dragon Savior. "

The night seemed to still be in anticipation. Even though they could not speak directly to one another. Atlas would give a gentle gesture, telling her he was listening to whatever was plaguing her mind. Starfania took a steady breath and continued, her voice steady but filled with emotions. " When we first met, Cantina said you chose me. But I still don't understand why. I was just… me. Ordinary. When me and my friends stumbled on this sword, I had no idea this sword was tied to the Dragon Savior. "

Starfania took the sword-pen out of her pocket and clicked the button to turn it back into its original form. As she moved it under the moonlight, the blade reflected the light. While Atlas followed the sword movement in his owner's hand. He could see the glimmer of uncertainty in her eyes, a shadow of doubt flickering across her expression. Starfania continued, her voice gaining strength. "I feel like I was pulled into something far beyond my understanding. Was it just a coincidence? Or was there a purpose behind all of this?"

She paused, searching for clarity in the surrounding stillness. Atlas leaned closer, his eyes locking onto hers. He understood the weight of her questions, the burden they both shared. She looked back at the sword, the symbols engraved on the blade swirling with stories untold. "Every time I hold it, I feel the power, but also a sense of responsibility. What if I'm not worthy? What if I fail?"

The night air seemed to thicken, wrapping them in a cocoon of thoughts and fears. Atlas shifted slightly, as if to reassure her that she wasn't alone in this battle of inner demons.

" Before you, I felt lost. Granted, Aeron and Violet were there for me in my dark time. It still felt like I was missing a piece of myself. Ever since the loss of my mother… my brother… even Bone… and I thought I had no place in this world. But you–"  Starfania finally met Atlas steady gaze. " —you gave me purpose. You saw something in me that I can't even see in myself. "
