Kevin Cliff had given up on the idea of carrying his son off the car once he heard her voice. He instructed the driver in front to stay in the car to protect the child, decisively got off and shut the car door, vigilantly surveyed his surroundings, and stepped forward to pull her to his side for protection.
He knew that it was impossible for any criminals to make it into the Small Town, yet protecting her and the child was just an instinctive action.
Kevin Cliff approached warily and, after recognizing the familiar logo on the express envelope, quickly took it down and opened it to look.
"Could there be another bad omen?" Charlotte Green voiced her concern.
Kevin Cliff touched the envelope with his hand and soothed her quietly, "It's nothing to worry about, you've forgotten that entering the Small Town is like entering a Security Gate, we're safe."
Reassured by his words, Charlotte Green felt much relieved, "Then let's open it and see."
