At that instant the planet shook, Maxwell felt as if the space between him and the mace was infinite, at first it began crashing down at high speed however as it got closer and closer to him its speed became slower and spreading over eons. The troll let out a grunt as it two handed the mace , its veins exploding as it let out more force on the mace. Maxwell was stuck in a space quake; the wave of space elementals had sent him barreling in the folds of space.
South of the continent of Aria, in a city that served as the capital of the Vlaris domain, in a room adorned in silver and rubies, a man awoke to the quaking planet, furrowing his silver eyebrows with as confusion etched on his face.
" ATTEND ME, IMMEDIATELY!" Edward Rynberg shouted hastily. His drowsiness replaced by a pensive look. One of the two massive doors opened, a scent of century old ebony wood wafted as a man and two women walked into the room.
"Lord." The man said.
"Lennard, contact the royal head arch mage and the magician's guild, I want to what is happening post haste!" Emperor Edward said one breath. "You two, get me dressed." He said to the two maids.
"At once sire, shall I have the royal archmage meet you in the throne room?" Lennard asked, "No, have him monitor the capital." Lennard left the emperor's room to the royal mage assembly. Understanding the emergency Lennard sent a communication via magic crystal and went in person.
"Edward, what is going on?" a drowsy voice arose from the bed as a woman cropped out from underneath the purple silk sheets. She had wavy flaxen black hair and blue eyes that glistened like the morning sky as she looked at Edward who stood tall at 6 foot 7, adorning his royal garments. "Lorna, honey you can go back to sleep. I will be away for a bit something urgent came up." Edward leaned his muscular body forward as he said in an ardent tone.
The royal palace like many other facilities had runic formations covering and protecting them although the tremors were not that catastrophic without runic formations cities would fallen in the Rynberg empire and its vassal states. So, Lorna had not sensed the shaking though Edward did.
The mountain ranges of the slumbering highlands divided the continent of Aria into two domains. They stretched along the center from the east to the west of the continent. The region in the north was called Destria and the region in the south called Vlaris. The slumbering mountains were such because of the hibernating calamity monsters in those highlands.
Deep beneath the mountain ranges of the slumbering highlands.
A raspy voice broke the sound of bustling leaves as it resounded from a crevice extending from a cave in the depths of the mountains.
"So, it's starting huh. Well, what will you do Linnaeus, I want to see how it will end but..." The voice wafted slowly into the mountain, its tone dreary, leaves lost their luster as it wafted into the air. "Just a few more years and it will be done, it won't affect the plan though its gonna get hectic for a while. These hibernating pets about to wake up." The brush of winds gathering over the crevice receded as soon as the voice stopped coming out. A grin adorned the pearly teeth of the figure.
The quaking had destroyed a few mountain ranges and woke up the hibernating beasts.
In the domain of Destria.
"Those idiots!" Within a large hall, a 4-meter humongous figure remained seated as he smashed the throne's armrest splinters falling off. The throne made by vines weaved together and intertwining. The magicians robe he adorned was sleeveless, his bulging muscles visible. Grey in color, it had a phantom of a temple and titans kneeling on its surface. Their motion not constant, like crescent waves the kneeling titans moved. Linnaeus was furious, he had wasted more time than necessary on his conquest and he was not joyous at all.
"I will burn their souls in the ancestor's flames of purgatory for eternity. Like those pompous bustards as well. How dare they!" Linnaeus let out a long sigh after his rant, although he could wipe out the humans and their summons as simple as swatting a fly, he did not wish to so.
Rather he did not want to, it was an affront to his power and much like sharpening a knife on a whetstone he desired to sharpen his forces. More battles lay ahead.
"Haaa, it seems like playtime is over. Summon the commanders of Silent whisper and Black Aegis at once." The shadows with the hall swayed for a second. Linnaeus' face was calm, his playful demeanor gone. His blue eyes had a dark hue gleaming like the calm of a deep sea, unshakable and unfathomably still. The world had been stagnant and it was time for pandemonium.
The world of Mergard trembled, though the quaking did not destroy cities, people were in turmoil as fear and anxiety clawed their way into the mind and hearts of the people. Intelligence organizations like clouds blanketing the sky moved to investigate.
Meanwhile on the battlefields spread over the south of the continent multiple slave soldiers disappeared into the space folds. Their numbers amounted into thousands, roughly five thousand. The Rynberg army consisted of various species like beast men; minotaur, centaurs, cat folk, fox folk, orcs, dwarves and elves captured from Destria. Humans from various planets were also subjected to subjugation magic by the prime humans of Mergard.
Maxwell floated in space, as he travelled unconsciously like many others from fold to fold.
Maxwell's POV
"Thanks mom, I got it." Stepping outside of the house, rays of sunlight flashed onto my face, blinking a bit I set my gaze across the street. It was morning and cars were moving about, holding tightly onto the shoulder straps of my bag I ran.
"Damn, I'm gonna be late. Shouldn't have stayed up so late last night." The bus was turning the corner towards Welling Street, I made a beeline to the intersection 10 minutes away before it can loop around.
I was huffing as I stood as the intersection and looking at it, I wasn't the only who missed the bus as a few kids were running towards me.
"Tom! Why are you late?" I gloated. "Hahaha, but I'm not the only sucker." Tom said with a smirk, as if on que we burst out laughing.
"I was playing the video game last night and IT WAS EPIC! So why are you late."
Tom looked at me for several seconds, I could feel my enthusiasm bubbling just waiting to burst. I wanted to talk about the game and I knew it was the reason he was late as well.
"Stop staring and say it, it was the video game, right?"
"Yeah, it was. I just couldn't stop playing." Tom said, "Hey, don't you think it would be fun, you know… to be in a fantasy world."
"Pu-hahaha, Tom be realistic man, let's get going the bus is here." Maxwell said as the bus stopped at the T-junction.
A few years later…
"Son, are you sure you want go ahead with it?" My mother asked with a face full of tears. "Yes mom, I really love her and I want to marry her." I said my voice resolute. "Every second I spent and will spend away from her is like pages torn from my book, pages that I will never get back!" My impassioned voice filled the air as I spoke and my face though I could not see was probably burning flames of young love given the way my mother looked at me as I said those words. "Okay then, I know you love her son and I am just afraid to left all alone. Your dad was all I had and he gave me you as a blessing it's just that I miss him sometimes." My mother's face showed longing, a longing I could sympathize with but never fully understood.
"I won't really be moving far and I will come to visit you as many times as I can. Natasha is also fond of you so I do not think she will mind." Her downcast expression changed as I tried to comfort her, I knew it was the best I could do. 13 years of longing, she had set aside her wants and raised me with her and for that I cherished her.
In the space folds, Maxwell drifted as memories flashed continuously in his mind. Where he and the others were going unknown.
