"Oh my God, could something have happened to Mr. Li Yue...?" Newton was overwhelmed by the monster's power. He had never seen a formidable creature with intelligence capable of feints and consecutive attacks. Seeing Li Yue seemingly engulfed by the monster's beam, he couldn't help but worry for him.
"Impossible! Brother Li Yue will be fine! He has to be!" Lin Yurou was also extremely tense, unsure if Li Yue had been hurt. The blue beam from the monster's mouth looked incredibly powerful. No one could guarantee that a direct hit wouldn't harm Li Yue. But she kept praying for his safety.
...
The monster's attack lasted nearly ten seconds before the blue beam slowly faded. However, Li Yue was nowhere to be seen when the beam dissipated, as if the energy beam had vaporised him. Before anyone could mourn, a chilling sword light flashed again.
Li Yue had somehow appeared before the monster, right below its gaping maw, and swung his sword upward. The beast, still reeling from its attack, had no time to react. The blade slashed through, severing the lower jaw and dispersing the gathered blue energy orb.
"Hmph, let's see you try that beam attack again," Li Yue thought, irritated by the near miss. Although he wouldn't have been hurt even if hit directly, he wasn't willing to risk it. The monster's continuous energy attacks could cause significant damage to the island and harm any remaining humans. He aimed to disable its ability to use the beam by attacking its mouth, which worked.
...
Just as Li Yue began to relax, he noticed something strange. The monster's severed mouth, which should have been gushing blood, was healing. The flesh around the wound wriggled, mirroring the regeneration seen during the monster's initial formation.
"What's going on? Can this monster heal like Wolverine?" Intrigued, Li Yue observed the wound closely. Within seconds, the monster's nearly severed jaw had regenerated completely. Even its previously severed tail and hand were thoroughly restored.
"Damn, that's impressive! It can actually heal itself!" Li Yue marvelled at the discovery. A self-healing monster would be a nightmare for the human-piloted Jaegers. Even he found dealing with such a creature challenging without using his full power.
...
"Wait a minute... Its body seems different now," Li Yue realised. Using his mental powers, he scanned the monster's body thoroughly.
"I see. It can heal, but it shrinks a little each time," Li Yue noted. His scan revealed that the monster had lost nearly a meter in height, shrinking from about 97 to just over 96 meters. The difference was subtle but noticeable under close examination.
Moreover, the severed parts, now lying nearby, had dried up like dead flesh, leaching energy from the surrounding vegetation and soil. This environmental contamination was spreading slowly but steadily.
"This kind of pollution is truly frightening," Li Yue thought, astonished by the effect.
...
"I can't continue fighting it as I planned," Li Yue decided, ready to change tactics. His original plan was to whittle down the monster gradually, but seeing the environmental damage it caused, he needed help to proceed that way. He didn't want the island to become a barren wasteland.
Determined to finish the fight quickly, Li Yue used his full power.
As Li Yue prepared, the monster, unaware of his plans, swiped at him with its claw.
"Damn, it's trying to sneak attack again! You'll regret this," Li Yue muttered, vanishing. The monster's attack was missed once more.
Reappearing a short distance away, Li Yue floated in the air, holding his silver greatsword aloft. Closing his eyes, he began channelling the blue spatial energy into the sword. The monster glared at Li Yue with unrelenting rage, realising its attack had failed.
