By the time Mr. Fischer returned to his rented room, it was almost half past ten, and he had that runaway carriage driver to blame. He had to run a good distance to get back to the direction of the city and catch a carriage, and he had no idea how Anna managed to return.
However, Mr. Fischer wasn't worried about her safety. The first time he met Anna at the Pink Hall, he felt a very dangerous aura about her. Though he didn't understand her specific methods, she was certainly no pushover.
When he got home, Lady Martha had already retired for the night, which conveniently spared him her inquisition about him and Elizabeth.
But recently, Mr. Fischer really felt as if things with Elizabeth were becoming indescribable.
Every time he was with her, there seemed to be a subtle atmosphere of separation, as if obscured by a thin veil, and he could easily tear it down if he reached out.
