Chapter 288 - task one

*Morpheus pov*

A sigh left my lips as the ink began to dry on the parchment I have been working on for the past well, the past day really I started on my task as soon as Herpo left to go round up his people.

Just thinking of the brain-numbing conversations he is about to have really lifts my mood. The sigh I just let go was almost reversed into the air.

My poor brother had to convince people who have hated eachothed for years to get along and then he and Albus have to convince those same people to give magical creatures rights.

HA!

Of course, his main task is going to be to sway the little minority he can while I work out the rest. He is a great fighter but sometimes Herpo can miss the most obvious avenues for success.

Swiveling my chair I plucked a letter I had set to the side some months ago and passed it off to Negary, "Take it to Arcturus or Cassiopeia." I requested

Negary snatched the letter from my fingers and sped off into the night sky.

Or is it morning sky? Bah, I can't tell anymore it's still relatively dark out at least.

Carefully picking up my parchment I walked over to the floo, "Flamel estate." I said while tossing in the powder

The flames roared and I was gone in an instant.

*Herpo pov*

Albus stared at me blankly as if I had just grown three heads and four feet.

"Well what do you think?" I asked after the beat of silence grew a little too long for my liking

"What is with you brothers? Does madness run in your blood!" Albus exclaimed as he popped some weird thing into his mouth

Drugs?

"I don't see the issue," I replied coldly, "you thought of the plan with me what's wrong now?"

Albus nodded, "Yes, everything was according to plan until you told me you wanted them to vote together in the Wizengamot, and then you want them to vote for creature rights?"

I nodded, "Precisely, it should be easy." I said, "You know we will hardly get everyone to agree, first we need them to be cordial with each other. We won't even bring up the Wizengamot matter In front of them, trust me Albus it will all go swimmingly."

Ha! Morpheus thought he could throw this task on me, "Bring it up with your closest allies perhaps, sway them I'm sure this infinite kindness of the light faction will see reason." we have done this song and dance before my brother will find a way to get this law passed

*Morpheus pov*

The glare that was being sent my way was scathing, I could practically feel the heat being emitted from his eyes.

It seems Nicolas still hasn't moved past the little disagreement we had, "I understand you are upset Nicolas." I began but he cut me off with an exaggerated scoff

"Please, upset doesn't even cover it. Millions Morpheus, MILLIONS!" he yelled, "Why don't you just look guilty for once! You are condemning millions of people to death and yet, I see no guilt, no shame, and most of all no regret."

He went on to complete his tirade of complaints but I cut him off, "Quiet you fool, of course I feel regret! I feel regret I was forced to take drastic measures to make humans fight for themselves! Content! They were content with living as cattle Nicolas, cattle! They weren't going to fight for themselves so I made them, now are you going to stop complaining or help me save those lives I have condemned?"

He mumbled something before tossing his hands in the air, "Fine, fine what do you want you bastard. To be on the receiving in of these conversations is truly grating." he huffed before taking a sip of whisky

I swallowed the laughter that tried to ruin the mood, "Here take a look." I said tossing him the parchment I'd been working on

He slowly began to read my work, "A simple premise but it might be harder than you think it create. To be able to soft through so many magical signatures and locate such a small leakage in the case of possession will be difficult."

I nodded, "Right so I was thinking we could set a simple divination charm into the artifact to help sift through the signatures. Its usually used to enhance the senses but with enough tweaking we can enhance the sensitivity if the artifact."

Nicolas hummed, "These wont be simple to mass produce we would need to use copper for the cage with an Acromantula silk membrane and that's not even considering the grafting with alchemy and the small enchantments we will have to carve. Perenelle can help but she doesn't understand the feeling of demonic, godly, or angelic magic like you do."

I expected this, "I figured. The one will do for now we might need to make more though."

"What's our timeframe?" he asked while already drawing diagrams on a spare parchment

"Until the ICW conference," I replied

He hummed, "Preparing something big?" he asked

I chuckled, "Just letting our mutual friends have the opportunity to shine."

*Narrator pov*

Behind the veil, Thor paced angrily, "What do you mean we can't attack right now?" he questioned the room, "We just took down an anchor this is the perfect time to strike!"

One of the angels scowled, "Easy for you to say your forces didn't take any casualties! We were the ones down there!" she bit pointing between her and a large demon

Thor scoffed, "We agreed you and the demons will lead the first strike, break down the veil, and then I will lead us to destroy another anchor."

"At what COST!" the demon bellowed, "We lost a sizeable chunk of our armies! We lost great generals and elite soldiers that have been around for ages, you and your lot think you're so much better than us!"

Thor rounded on the demon prepared to surge into battle.

"ENOUGH!" a loud voice shouted quieting the ensemble

"Yes, we destroyed an anchor but its not enough for some of us to make it through. We will all continue to take losses, we will all continue to morn, and we will all continue to fight till our dying breath to be free once more."

The voice paused before beginning again, "The humans are having a conference again plant some of our possessed into the meeting. Once we learn which anchor is being guarded the least we will strike."

"And we will slaughter them all."
