Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Making Him Have Strange Dreams

"You're looking for me?"

In the evening, Ningwan sat in her room, pondering over how to ask Zhan Hanjue to return. Unexpectedly, Zhan Hanjue came back on his own.

Ningwan was overjoyed but feigned surprise, "No, I didn't look for you."

Zhan Hanjue frowned, "Mrs. Chen said you had something to discuss with me."

Ningwan hurriedly got up and walked toward the door.

Sure enough, upon peeking out, she saw Mrs. Chen standing in the corridor, ready to eavesdrop at any moment.

Ningwan had no choice but to close the door, turning to face Zhan Hanjue, "It's not that I was looking for you; it's Grandma who wants you to come. As for the reason... I guess even if I don't say it, you should already know. Grandma is anxious to have a great-grandchild; you're always sleeping in the study, making her impatient."

Zhan Hanjue's frown deepened.

Ningwan quickly explained, "It wasn't me complaining to Grandma. I have no objections if you don't come back. But you know the old lady's thoughts; there's nothing I can do. What do you propose? Mrs. Chen is probably out there waiting to eavesdrop."

"Did Grandma give you something?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

Ningwan thought, you really understand your Grandma.

"Yes, a bottle... It's said to be a tonic once used by imperial concubines for the emperor. Grandma said to pour it in your water cup for you to drink." Ningwan took out the small porcelain bottle.

Zhan Hanjue snatched it away with a cold face, "Confiscated."

"Suit yourself."

Confiscating it was fine; she wasn't interested in it anyway.

"The bracelet on your wrist?" Zhan Hanjue suddenly grabbed her wrist.

While reaching for the bottle earlier, he accidentally touched her wrist. The bracelet made a sound, which he probably heard.

Ningwan quickly explained, "It's a bracelet Grandma gave me. She said it was a gift from you to her. I originally didn't want it, but Grandma insisted on giving it to me."

"Keep wearing it." Zhan Hanjue released her hand.

Ningwan sighed in relief; his grip had hurt her.

"You said Mrs. Chen is outside?" Zhan Hanjue asked.

Ningwan responded, "Yes, she's in the corridor now. She should come back soon to eavesdrop. What should we do? You'd better explain to Grandma and say you truly don't like me; she probably won't make things difficult for you."

"She's already left," Zhan Hanjue said.

"What?" Ningwan was surprised.

The next moment, she was pushed onto the bed by Zhan Hanjue. When she realized it, Zhan Hanjue was pressing down on her, their distance no more than five centimeters.

"What... What are you doing?" Ningwan said nervously, her cheeks reddening.

Zhan Hanjue's voice lowered, his lips slightly parted, "Reassuring Grandma."

"Reassuring Grandma by pressing on me? You wouldn't dare to take this further, would you?" Ningwan asked in horror.

Zhan Hanjue smirked.

For the first time, Ningwan saw him smile, and she was dumbstruck.

This... It was too attractive!

From her first sight of Zhan Hanjue, she knew he was exceptionally handsome. Especially his skull; she'd never seen such perfectly structured bones, making her want to touch them.

Thinking she'd gotten used to looking after so long.

Unexpectedly, his smile was like the warmth of spring, stirring her heart again.

Yet fortunately, rationality prevailed, preventing any impulsive actions.

"Why are you smiling? Do you really mean that? Didn't you say you're not interested in me?" Ningwan nervously reached for her silver needles.

"Don't move, just putting on a show." Zhan Hanjue leaned closer, almost whispering in her ear.

Ningwan's face turned even redder, her heart pounding uncontrollably.

Having such a face is one thing; his voice being so pleasant is simply unfair.

It seems heaven wanted to preserve a path for normal people by taking his eyesight.

"Do you want me to scream? Since it's an act, it needs to be convincing."

"You know how?" Zhan Hanjue raised an eyebrow.

"Hmpf." Ningwan dismissed him with a pout; she might not have practical experience, but she has theoretical knowledge.

He was underestimating her.

"Mm... Oh husband, slow down, you're hurting me, mm..." Ningwan softly moaned in exaggerated motions.

Zhan Hanjue: "..."

Coughing lightly, his ears reddened, and he immediately rolled off her, lying beside her breathing deeply.

Outside, Mrs. Chen heard the sounds and couldn't help covering her mouth, chuckling.

Secretly thinking, who would have thought the seemingly indifferent Young Madam could be so uninhibited?

Looks like they'll have a little Zhan Family successor soon.

Mrs. Chen left quietly with a smile, eager to report the good news to the old lady.

"She's already left." Zhan Hanjue suddenly reached out to cover Ningwan's mouth.

If she kept going, he'd be affected too.

"Left? How do you know?" Ningwan asked in wonder.

Zhan Hanjue sneered, "You're a doctor, didn't you know blind people have excellent hearing?"

"Cough, cough, once you're done, we should visit Divine Doctor Bai Zhi." Ningwan awkwardly comforted.

But she still felt uneasy about Mrs. Chen's departure, getting off the bed to check the hallway, confirming no one was there.

Ningwan sighed in relief, turned to Zhan Hanjue, "She's indeed gone; you can return to the study."

"If I go to the study now, Grandma will surely grow suspicious." Zhan Hanjue replied.

"So... You're planning to... sleep here tonight?" Ningwan asked, confused.

"This is my room and my bed." Zhan Hanjue reminded her.

Ningwan chuckled awkwardly, "Of course I know it's your room and your bed. I'm just asking. Fine, sleep it is! I'll make a floor bed."

She went to the cabinet, grabbed a blanket, and laid it out on the floor.

She's slept on the floor before; what's there to be afraid of?

However... She hadn't bathed yet today.

And when Zhan Hanjue came in earlier, there was a faint scent of water, indicating he had bathed.

She bathed daily out of habit, and not doing so made it hard to sleep.

If she went to the room next door to bathe, she feared the old lady would find out.

"Are you sleeping or not?"

Ningwan's tossing and turning annoyed Zhan Hanjue, with his acute hearing.

"I'm sorry," Ningwan quickly apologized, "I haven't bathed and can't sleep. Can I take a bath in your bathroom?"

"Go ahead." Zhan Hanjue said coldly.

Ningwan sighed in relief, quickly getting up from the floor.

Thinking he was blind, she didn't mind, undressing in the room like before, nakedly going to the bathroom.

Zhan Hanjue: "..."

He immediately lowered his gaze, his heart pounding!

But he couldn't say anything, or it would reveal his secret.

When Ningwan finished bathing, she came out as she had entered, stark naked.

Zhan Hanjue quickly closed his eyes, his heart racing, making him put a hand over his chest as if to prevent it from leaping out.

Yet, that fleeting glimpse.

The image of her graceful and snowy-white body seemed branded in his mind, impossible to erase.

That night, Zhan Hanjue was in a dreamlike state, slipping in and out of slumber, dreaming a long, vivid dream.

In the dream, he and the girl were entwined in passion, full of tender affection.

The shock upon waking, a profound emptiness and shame, left his face beet-red.
