Arthur flared Greed one last time, targeting the tentacles nearest Aleks.
They twitched spasmodically, some retracting, others seizing up in painful spasms.
Aleks ripped free, darting back toward Arthur with a surge of speed that blurred his form into a silver streak.
But the beast was not defeated. It raged now, fully awake, every eye glaring balefully into the dark waters.
Arthur's lungs burned, his strength fading fast. He glanced up toward the faint light above.

He motioned to Aleks sharply.
Together, they turned to face the monster again.
