Chapter 8 - Question and answers (1)

Enopy then sat down in front of Layen and said, "Go ahead."

Layen nodded slowly, a confused expression crossing his face. "What's the police force?"

Enopy almost lost his cool but decided to explain anyway. "The police force are the people who uphold peace by making rules that people have to follow—and who kill in the name of justice."

"Oh, you mean the Magic Council Association," Layen said with a sudden look of realization.

"The Magic Council Association?" Enopy repeated with a vague expression.

"Yeah," Layen nodded, "They control the 'Protect and Serve Stations,' the 'Information Traders Association,' the 'Supreme Court of the World,' and the 'Anything Magical Association.'" He rattled off the names quickly.

"Could you explain what each of those does, one by one?" Enopy asked eagerly.

"Okay. The Protect and Serve Stations protect regular humans. They handle almost every problem that's not magic-related—like rogue protectors or servers, killers, robbers, that kind of thing."

"Do people just go to them and report problems? Then they take care of it?" Enopy asked.

"Yeah. You go to a Serve Station and a server takes your report. There are also Protect Stations, but protectors are everywhere at all times, so people rarely need to go there. Criminals are imprisoned, then reformed into devoted servers or protectors. There are pairs of these stations scattered across every continent," Layen explained.

"The Protect and Serve Stations are under the Anything Magical Association. The Anything Magical Association deals with rogue Magic Knights, rampaging magical beasts, beast stampedes, rogue magical pets, and such. This association is entirely made up of Magic Knights. At the head of every branch, there's a special rank of three. They used to be called the 'Anything Magical Guild,' but they were integrated into the Magic Council's system. They get their intel from the Information Traders Association. There are only five branches of the Anything Magical Association on each continent," Layen said, pausing to catch his breath.

"The Information Traders Association is made up of anyone and everyone—shop owners, merchants. There's only one base for them, located on one of the floors in the Magic Council Tower. Merchants and shop owners get given a gem and an inscribed bird that changes color and shape depending on their aura. The birds can record messages, and if the bird transforms into something battle-related, it can be used in combat. The base sends transmissions to the gem, which relays information to the bird. The bird can then deliver the message to the intended target. All the birds can mask their presence and camouflage themselves, but they're not invincible," Layen explained, then paused again before continuing.

"The Supreme Court of the World has branches all over the world—one building on each continent. Their base is also a floor in the Magic Council Tower. They don't usually interact with the world, and the members are what people call 'inhumans.' They occasionally make world-shaking decisions. They use 'angels,' which are inscribed giants that shine brighter than the sun and have white wings—from what I've heard."

Layen took a deep breath and continued, "The Magic Council is made up of the Protect and Serve Stations, the Information Traders Association, the Supreme Court of the World, and the Anything Magical Association. Their base has 20 floors. Every floor is 4,000 feet tall and 2,000,000 miles long—it's its own continent. It's almost entirely composed of 'inhumans,' except for a few Magic Knights, underlings, or experiment subjects. It's ruled by eight 'inhumans' who change every 10,000 to 15,000 years and are never seen again. They're called the kings of this world. It is said that just a strand of their hair can split the world apart."

Enopy forced himself not to think too much about what Layen had just said. He pressed on with his barrage of questions. His face grew dark, and in a cold voice he asked, "Who or what are inscription masters and manipulators? Tell me everything about them."

Layen nodded. "Okay. Inscription masters can use the energy of the world itself, unlike Magic Knights, who use energy particles in the air or the fragrance realm to cultivate, or bodybuilders who cultivate purely on the faint energy they sense in the air."

"Inscription masters fuse their core fragrance with the world energy and 'meaning' to give an item the intended effect. They advance faster than others because of this world energy. Like everyone else, they sense energy particles close to their aura or fragrance, but for inscription masters, it's easier to access those particles—not necessarily to sense them. They use the world energy to force energy particles that match or are close to their fragrance, but it's mentally exhausting. To be an inscription master, you need very high mental power and must be chosen by the world," Layen said.

"As for manipulators," Layen continued, "They have a high fragrance, just below inscription masters in rank. A manipulator is like a rank one, and an inscription master is a peak rank two. The rest are bodybuilders—stage first to peak. Manipulators can't sense world energy but can clearly sense their own fragrance they have high sensitivity to their own fragrance , which is harder for inscription masters because the world energy acts as their own."

"There are two kinds of manipulators: aura manipulators and fragrance manipulators. Aura manipulators can manipulate only aura, and fragrance manipulators can manipulate both. It's pretty self-explanatory," Layen finished.

Enopy nodded but said, "I have a few more questions."

"What is the geographic situation of this world?" Enopy asked, leaning forward slightly with a solemn expression, resting his chin in his hands.
