The next one on the vigilante hit list figured that he is safe in police custody. Since all police stations throughout the entire country were bugged for obvious reasons this idea was brilliant but alas it was short-lived. As think tanks all over the country started to put their heads together. They discovered that the security cameras were made analog. The people who walked in and out were people they knew. Everything was screened thoroughly. After a search of the schematics both electrical and otherwise which led to nothing. They started going scenarios and they found out the procedure in the event of a fire. First the doors are bolted shut. Shutters come down to block windows from bursting open to let oxygen in. The vents are programmed to suck the air out of the room. So it was simply a matter of who gets to put the bell on the cat. I volunteered but was denied. I am a key asset and was still usable in the program. I said that I can start a fire since I had previously arrested a serial arsonist. I can go in there pretending to be maintenance and start a fire covertly. So all we had to do was make sure the door in his room didn't shut so the oxygen deprivation would be possible. I can drop a marble that can prevent the sliding doors from closing.
They took my idea and I suggested that we look around in case there are spotters. So they send a drone pretending to deliver packages and the hidden camera discovers a few trigger itchy snipers with their rifles pointed at the police station with their already on the trigger. Waiting with baited breath to fire at a moment's notice. They were getting updates on wind patterns and other essentials that would ensure that they hit their target. The enterprise applauded my insight and asked if they could be others. I said if I was going to protect an asset I would make sure that a few officers were placed as homeless people. So if the crooks get out they won't slip past these men. To prove my point I acted suspiciously and sat next to a homeless person before calling my friend to say her husband isn't cheating on her. I gave the guy a steaming cup of coffee and got up. What he didn't know was that behind him was my associate covertly slipped a listening device. The homeless person waited till I was out of earshot before he said that the coast was clear. He said that it was a false alarm. The woman that they had suspected was pretending to be Magnum pi in the hopes to find a cheating husband. He congratulated my crackpot technique that almost had me riddled with bullets had I not declared my intentions. I was asked if I would do anything else. I mentioned that I would place people in plain clothes posing as customers or people working in the kiosk. I have done it twice in my term as a police officer. Once while protecting a mother and daughter after they promised to testify against a psychopath. The rest was confirmed and a new plan was made. We blackmailed a dirty cop to go in and release him saying that he had made a false confession. So after an hour of confirmation he walked out of the building.
I asked them to figure out which routes they were going to take and have snipers ready with armor piercing rounds. I was taught how to use a rifle too so I asked which position I take. I was guided to a parking garage. He passed by a different route and was gunned down. People went into full panic mode. I packed up and got the heck out of there. My boss called asking for an update on the delivery. I said that I was done and was enjoying a sandwich and a juice. The heat was sweltering. He was surprised that I had delivered all the packages in such a short time but regardless he let me take a break after he requested that I come over and collect the rest of the packages. I ate and cycled over and finished my work for the day and I asked them to make sure that the bugs are deactivated temporarily because after a situation like this. The standard procedure was to check the length and breadth of the building and personal property for bugs. After which they will do an internal investigation to check for dirty cops. I came home and saw the roomie was walking out after a change of outfit. I asked her how her day was and she asked me about mine. I said that I trailed after a crook who was harassing homeless teenagers both men and women. I had forgotten to bring my bodycam so I won't be able to be of much help. She asked which part of the city. I gave her a general direction and she said that she will see what she can do. She asked me if I made any progress with finding the sanctuary killer and I said that I had found a lead but it was a dead end. She asked me where I had been and I told her that the clues I discovered led me to an abandoned shop. The place looked like it may have been used recently but I couldn't tell if it was from vagrancy or from a murder. She asked me to take her there so I asked if I could use the bathroom first. I used the bathroom and we walked out of the apartment. Her eyes were fixed on me. I remained as calm as possible.
I took her to the location and Jake was there too. He said he came as soon as he got my message. He asked me what I had seen. I said it could be a dead end. Both of them told me to wait here and slipped in for a quick peek. A few minutes later they came out and said that it is dead end. Jake asked for the clue and I directed him to Gazebo. A chatroom that led me to save that witness by the lake. He said that it is likely a trap so he will see what he can dig up. I said that I am about to take a shower and head off to another location. It is possible that this place is compromised. He asked the place and turned to drop me home. A homeless man came and thanked me for getting him dinner. I gave a few dollar bills and directed towards a shelter. Cleo was amazed. She dropped me home and apologized. She said that a man showed up and fearlessly confessed to committing a bunch of murders. He was detained till it was proven that he had lied. He was released and shortly afterwards was gunned down by a sniper. She discovered that this person had a connection to the sanctuary killer. I asked her for details since my brother in law is a witness. I am here for his safety. She asked me bluntly, "What did you mean by these people being stopped with a bullet." I took a deep breath and replied, "I was referring to the one that came gun blazing to kill the witness while they are in protective custody. Before I was let go because of my mental health I was helping Jake with protecting a witness. Men barged into the building armed to the teeth. Killed my best men like they were nothing more than NPCs in a video game. These people were well informed. They went straight for my assignment. He was locked in a blast proof box. But somehow they cracked it open and put one in his skull. I was left alive as a message." I showed her the bullet hole in my chest and she apologized profusely. I made it very clear, "If you think I am guilty next time arrest me" She chuckled, "The amount of time you spend helping people when you're off work. I would have to arrest myself first. You should hear the nickname that some of the people in this building are calling you. Miss white." I patted her on the shoulder and walked back to the couch. She asked me what I said to Jake. I gave her an address and warned her that some of these places are booby trapped. I remembered one incident in New York where five rookie police sustained serious injuries. One guy opened the door and a machine gun went berserk. The second guy walked through a corridor and an axe swung at him. He was in the ICU for months. The third was iron rebars that grinded till one end resembled a spike. They pierced his body like he was a kebab. He barely made it to the hospital. The next booby trap was on a walkway. There was a note and he pulled it off the string and the floor gave away. He fell into a pile of busted machinery. He is now a permanent wheelchair user. The fifth and final one walked into and fell down a chute and broke his legs. The closest description of his leg after surgery would be a pin cushion. I looked up to see that she was petrified. I told her to go about her business. I will let her know when she can be of assistance. I am deputized so I have to do this like or not. She wanted to say something but unfortunately she had a call about a possible lead on the sniper. I wished her luck regarding the FBI as she stormed off. She said a gruff thank you as she shut the door.
I waited ten minutes before Tanya said that the coast is clear. I recalled what happened as I walked into the bathroom and the earpiece went wild. I used sign language and the others came up with a plan. I asked them to check the apartment for bugs. Also have someone pretend to be a homeless guy to make me look like a good Samaritan. The others thought it was ridiculous but did it regardless. By the time I came back to Earth the other hackers understood why I was the face while the other was the deed. After a round of applause. Tanya reminded me that the ones I had mentioned were booby traps that I had personally set. I grinned, "She didn't need to know that. Besides I think it is best if I switch apartments." There was a unanimous no. I was told that this arrangement was perfect. Tanya then asked if anyone had any issues with me being the way I am. Everyone declared that they were complicit. One of the hackers said that roomies asked the security of I leave at odd hours. Thankfully the guy was level green so he shrugged it off saying that I don't leave after eight o'clock unless there was some sort of medical assistance she can provide. He gave a list of my achievements. My roomie grinned ear to ear and walked off to work. I waited another twenty minutes before I asked them to look up a name. Chase Holden and David Bracken. A few asked questions as they typed furiously. I said that these men had previously worked with Henry. One of the nerds asked if it was Thor on steroids and I said yes. There were a few gasps followed by a billion questions. I answered none. I said that I will explain after they track these idiots. Tanya found them and I said that they used to visit us and from the conversations I had eavesdropped on these men are definitely deserving of a double tap to the cerebellum. I asked them to access a private file I have hidden in the NYPD's servers. I heard vigorous tapping and a lot of swearing then the orders came to track these douchebags. That took four hours but it was well worth it. It turns out they were in Thailand. But they will be returning to Florida in a day or two. I jokingly asked if it was possible to detain them when they landed in Florida.
I received the red notice and got out to see my roomie was home. She asked me where I was going and I said that I am bored so I hired a motorcycle driver to take me for a spin. I wanted to tour. I am sick of riding my bicycle and I am not a fan of four wheel drive. She gave me a smile and asked if I could order an extra. She wants to come too. I said that I will look into it. The earpiece was using profanities so horrible I almost ripped out of my ear. The urge to wash it with hand sanitizer was overwhelming. I called a hacker and he answered. I asked if I had the correct company before I put it on speaker. I asked him if he had any more bikes. He said that I ordered the last one. The others are either booked or have signed out for the night. She told me to wait here as she got changed. She will follow me on her car. I smiled while the others tried to figure out a way to give her the slip. I waited till she was in her room and I texted via ghost messenger, "After a few minutes turn the light green. Get a different bike and a change of clothes. Find someone with my height and build to dupe her. We will switch phones so even if she tries to track me she won't be able to tell the person who killed them was me." Tanya promised that it was being arranged. The decoy will be waiting and traffic cams are being duped as we speak. I sat down with a grin on my face. My roomie walked out and asked me why I chose a bike. I smiled, "When I was little my best friend's dad used to take me riding on his bike. It was his way of cheering me up. My dad would drop me off so he could take his sweet time beating the crap out of my mom." Her smile vanished. I explained that it is the reason I don't consume alcohol. The stench reminds of the day he almost murdered mom. I had him evicted from my house. I recalled mom being in the ICU for six months. One hacker applauded my backstory. Tanya retorted that I was actually telling the truth. A few gasps were heard and apologies were heard. I gave Roomie a wink and walked out the door. She came too and gave me a hug. She got in the elevator and we got off the ground floor. I walked to the biker who gave me a once over and asked for the password. I said, "Titanic" He gave me a jacket and a helmet. I gave Roomie a wink and put everything on. I asked the reason for the jacket. He said that it was chilly outside. He didn't want me to catch a cold.
