Chapter 28: Taming the Void
Drake turned his head toward the entrance of the village. Rimuru jumped up onto his shoulder, and both of them shouted in unison—
"LET'S GO!"
In a flash, Drake, Rimuru, and all their Pokémon appeared just outside the village gates. In the distance, a massive pack of deep blue wolves loomed, their glowing eyes fixed on the small settlement.
"Whoa, there's a lot of them… How are we going to deal with this, Brother?" Rimuru asked, hopping down from Drake's shoulder.
Drake smirked, stepping forward confidently. "It's not a problem. Wait here."
As he strode ahead, the wolves began growling, their hackles raised. From within their ranks emerged a massive wolf—easily twice the size of the others. Its eyes gleamed with intelligence and malice.
"Grrrr… You. Why are you helping these weak greenlings?" the wolf growled, his voice laced with contempt.
Drake stopped, his eyes locking with the beast's. "Hah! No need to be so hostile. My brothers and I are new to this world. These goblins offered us their village in exchange for protection." He bared his dragon-like fangs in a menacing grin. "You must be the leader. I have a proposal. Rather than a bloodbath, let's settle this with a duel. If you win, your pack walks free. But if I—or my representative—wins, your pack will serve under me and live peacefully in our village."
The wolf leader snarled. "And what makes you think we can't simply wipe you all out?"
Drake laughed, deep and wild. "Then let me show you why."
He inhaled deeply, and magical energy surged around him like a storm.
"MAGMA DRAGON'S ROAR!"
A colossal stream of molten magma erupted from his mouth, scorching the earth and leaving a massive crater where part of the pack had stood moments before. Heat radiated from the smoldering ground.
The wolves shivered at the display. Even the leader gulped visibly.
"…Fine," he growled. "I accept your challenge—but on one condition. You don't fight."
Drake shrugged, grinning. "Sure. Infernape, come forward!"
With a flash, Infernape appeared beside Drake, his eyes sharp and focused. He turned to his master and nodded before facing his opponent, raising one flaming paw and beckoning the wolf with a cocky grin.
Drake stepped back. "Infernape, don't use fire-type moves. Just beat him down—but don't kill him. He'll make a perfect mount."
The massive wolf let out a furious roar and charged, fangs bared.
But Infernape vanished.
In the blink of an eye, he reappeared beside the wolf and delivered a glowing punch straight to its jaw, sending the beast flying across the clearing.
Drake smiled. Infernape merely cracked his knuckles and began walking toward the recovering wolf, who staggered to his feet, dazed and furious.
Blinded by rage, the wolf lunged again—only to be dodged effortlessly. Infernape's glowing leg connected with his ribs, launching him into a tree. He collapsed with a limp thud.
Infernape yawned, strutted back to Drake's side, and gave a satisfied nod.
The rest of the wolves, having seen their alpha utterly humiliated, cautiously approached. One by one, they lay down, heads bowed.
"We pledge our loyalty to you!" they howled.
Drake nodded with approval. "I accept."
He made his way toward the unconscious wolf leader, musing to himself. When Veldora gave us the name Tempest, I felt stronger… Could I do the same for them?
He stood over the fallen beast and declared, "From now on, your name shall be Maugrim the Void."
A massive surge of magical energy burst from Drake, flowing into the battered wolf. But to his surprise, it also spread to several older wolves within the pack. The younger ones stood back in awe, watching the transformation begin.
Suddenly, an idea struck him.
"RIMURU!" Drake shouted. "See that young wolf with the star-shaped birthmark on his forehead? Give him a name!"
Rimuru bounced over, examined the pup, and then smiled. "Alright. From now on, your name is—Ranga!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, a wave of powerful magic erupted from Rimuru, engulfing Ranga and the younger wolves. Their bodies began to glow and shift as new strength surged through them.
Meanwhile, the older wolf—Maugrim—began to stir. He stood shakily and looked into Drake's eyes, then bowed low.
"From this day forward, my loyalty is yours, Master."
Drake reached out and patted the great wolf's head. "I'm Drake. And I accept your loyalty."
With his new army behind him, Drake turned back toward the village.
"Everyone, let's head back. We've got a lot to discuss."
The wolves and Pokémon followed closely behind, while the goblins watched in stunned silence, unable to comprehend the sheer madness—and power—of what had just occur
