Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 [Arc 1]

[Name] was so tired, barely sleeping. Although he'd been through sixth form and university on only a few hours of sleep a day it was wearing him thin, making Desmond and his brothers worry more. They also made pointed arguments and told him to take it easy as he was still slightly more human than the rest of them as they had been demons for a longer time than he. They got brushed off each time.

However, the brothers would always take the initiative to help [Name] and whenever they could. For that, [Name] was extremely grateful, but it was also making his job harder than it already was with monitoring all the brothers and where they were going and what they were doing.

[Name] sighed, he was going to have to stop with his 'normal' jobs and immerse himself completely in Devildom's underworld. It wasn't a good feeling. Desmond and his brothers were the ones that were trying to get rid of these 'gangs' and 'mobs' and [Name] himself was working against them. He didn't think of them as being problematic, but as is with all things there are two sides to a coin.

That's why he was currently in enemy territory, they were trying to gain back lost territory for Tsukiyama. Making an intimidating figure in his demon form with his glowing [Eye Colour] eyes. Ushering the civilian demons away from the area and circles into opposing ground.

"[Name]! You need to get out of there! The police forces are closing in!" came Lulu's cold voice through the walkie-talkie talisman. [Name] groaned at the insult hurled through the talisman before it stopped glowing.

[Name] grimaced, he had to get the civilians out of here and get back to the rest of the group.

There was small, quiet sobbing amidst the scrambling demons trying to get to safety, [Eye Colour] eyes connected with emerald green. [Name] froze. It was a child.

'Side Mission: save Tsukiyama's cousin. 150 points will be rewarded if the mission is completed. Please complete the mission or there will be a deduction of 270 points. The host currently has 179 points.'

'What?!? How is that fair?!'

The System stayed silent.

Cursing the system slightly, [Name] ran over to the child, cradled the young demon in his arms and ran through the crowd, until [Name] felt people following them. He looked up and saw the lackeys of the rival gang. Pumping his legs faster, becoming a blur.

When finally in a safe area, [Name] sat the child down slowly.

"[Name]! There you are! Yato! What did I tell you about running off? I told you to stay close to me, what were you thinking..."

[Name] watched as little Yato was scolded by Tsukiyama. He turned back to Lulu who was glaring at him, "What?"

"Nothing."

[Name] rolled his eyes, "Well, it's something. Now tell me."

"I don't like how quick they caught onto you," Lulu gave [Name] a suspicious glare, "Tsukiyama may trust you, but I sure as hell don't."

[Name] sighed, "Alright then," before turning around and walking away.

Lulu's glare sharpened even more as he watched the others back, he hated the way [Last Name] never fought back, always staying quiet and accepting it. Lulu knew that [Last Name] had been hiding something, and he wanted to know what he was hiding.

[Name] walked around the corner, flared his [Favourite Colour] wings, and cut open a portal.

Stumbling from the nauseous feeling of teleportation. [Name] appeared in front of the House of Lamentation. [Name] stumbled through the doors and up the stairs and into his room, flopping onto the bed. Sinking into the mattress; it was silent for a half-hour until there was a familiar knock at his door.

"Come in, Desmond."

Desmond walked in quietly, taking in the scene in front of him. He walked over to the bed and sat on the side making [Name] look at him.

"What is it?"

"May I see your demon form?"

[Name] felt slightly unsure, but one look at Desmond's pleading eyes made [Name] give in.

"...Sure."

[Name] pictured himself in his demon form and his wings and horns materialised, and his eyes changed into [Eye Type, e.g., slits] with [Favourite Colour] scales littering his torso.

Desmond eyed the scales with intense curiosity.

"Can I touch them?"

"Yeah, go ahead," [Name] was slightly embarrassed by the attention he was gaining from Desmond, but the latter's attention turned towards a rather nasty looking scar travelling across his upper torso.

"What happened?"

[Name] gently held Desmond's hand and looked into his eyes, [Name] spoke quietly, "It was from a fight."

Something in Desmond snapped. Embracing [Name], crying soundlessly into his shoulder and just began wondering why, why did [Name] have to go through what he was going through?! He did not deserve any of it…

It always felt to him that people with the kindest hearts and the prettiest eyes have seen the most pain and gone through too much pain. Desmond had seen the dulling of Lilith's eyes.

If one was in a field of flowers, which one would you pick first?

Desmond cried and cried, and [Name] only held him because he knew that anything he said now would just make the latter cry even more. [Name] tightened his embrace and told Desmond to just let go. And he did. He was bawling like a child, aeons ago.

Desmond cried, cried and cried until he passed out in [Name]'s arms.

[Name] gently laid the other on his bed and sat by him, gently adjusting the covers, brushing stray hair away from Desmond's face.

'Lucian?'

'Yes, [Name]?'

'Can you erase memories?'

'I can, but I need consent from both parties to remove them otherwise the party that wants to remove the memories from the other will be in a lot of pain.'

'Alright. There won't be any chance for them to regain the memories, right?'

'There is always a chance for them to gain their memories back depending on their feelings towards you. If strong enough they can break through the mental barrier.'

'Alright, thank you.'

[Name] got up from the bed and left the room.

Sighing, he walked to the kitchen and made himself a hot chocolate. Savouring the warmth from the mug, thinking over the past few months. [Name] found himself developing feelings for Desmond. He was very endearing in his own right even though he was intimidating most of the time.

Lucian and Desmond were weirdly alike, [Name] noted, although it was like three seconds away from a brawl whenever they interacted with each other. Although it was amusing to watch, it did irk [Name] whenever he was trying to do something and then he would be stopped because of their quarrel.

Sipping his drink and snuggling into the cushions on the sofa, [Name] put the mug on the coffee table and fell asleep. Dreaming of being back in his original world, but his heart twinged in pain at the thought of leaving the brothers; not only that but he was reluctant to leave this world and go onto the next one to be able to go back to his original one.

[Name] didn't sleep well that night. He had read some stories like this, and although he believed he would never get attached to the characters, here he was, getting attached and getting himself hurt. It was ironic, but the pain comes hand in hand with life.

When he woke up the next morning, [Name] called into his office to tell them that he wasn't going to be at work for the next couple of days.

[Name] wasn't feeling well, but he still tagged around Desmond, none of the remarks the other demons made fazed him. [Name] in turn had built a reputation among some of them. He ignored them, but he knew they feared him. [Name] liked it; it gave him a rush. This was when he knew he had a sadistic streak, something that he also found out in the bedroom with Desmond.

This brought him disdain from the other noble demons and made them look down on Desmond, and they talked, but that didn't faze any of them. It made the brothers and [Name] laugh, because what can, what could, they do? Try to plot against them? There have been past examples and their names have all been erased; so, let them talk, for what action can they execute? What can they do?

[Name] chuckled at the pathetic ways they would try to get rid of him.
