Chapter 6 - Chapter One

I awake in a hammock with my head pounding. I gently roll my head to the right and notice that Cy is sleeping right next to me. My heart starts racing.

He looks so peaceful when he is sleeping. His mouth is slightly ajar and his breathing is so mellow and soothing that I don't even realize that I'm the one staring at him now.

"Guess that's what I get after ignoring him for so long. Some stupid infatuation." I mumble under my breath.

"Did you say something about a stupid infatuation?" Cy says sleepily just barely opening his brown eyes. "Because liking someone isn't stupid. Last I checked, humans feel the need to be accepted by other humans."

"Maybe you did learn something when you were in the castle." I say.

"Oh har har. You're so funny. Maybe, just maybe, you could make it as a comedian. But for now, we need to eat. What's for breakfast?" He begins to get out of the hammock, stumbles and lands on his face.

Blowing the leaf he knocked on my face, I grab the backpack in search of a granola bar only to find the backpack nearly empty of supplies.

"Cy." I say, very slowly, and accusingly. "Did you eat more than one granola bar?"

"Possibly but I think we should also take in the fact-" He stops talking as a rustle of the bush where we set a trap gathers our attention.

The rustling of the leaves gets my adrenaline up, and my heart began to beat just a little faster. I instinctively crouch and balance out my weight as I slowly make my way towards our trap. I feel my hand thrumming with energy, as I feel my body become calm and everything around me just fades. Focusing on the air around me, I pull the bush apart slightly and peer into the bush and see a rabbit caught in the trap. I reach my right hand in and grab the rabbit and redo the trap. Standing proudly, I turn around and face Cy, holding up our meal.

"Whoo you caught something? Dang mine is still empty." He said as he checked his trap in the other bush.

"Its fine, I'll share. There's enough for both of us anyway." I walk towards the makeshift campfire and I start to cook the rabbit over the fire.

As the rabbit cooks, I stare into the fire, feeling the heat waves radiate off my face.

The more I stare the more I feel the presence of my magic inside of me. It swirls and twirls around my heart, causing it to feel at ease and more attentive to the area around me.

Cy sits down beside me and looks into the fire and then at me. "How does it feel?" He asked, looking back to the fire.

"What do you mean?" I replied, not looking anywhere but the fire, knowing it would cause unnecessary feelings and thoughts.

"Having your magic I mean. Mine is just barely unlocked and I can't even control it yet." Cy spoke, a little panic in his voice.

"Harnessing your powers and using them are two different feelings. I was chosen by the Gods for a purpose that even I do not know of, and since I've had my magic since such a young age, I don't know how to not control it. Almost as though it is a second nature to have my magic flowing into the air around me." I say, as I feed some of my magic energy out into the air and let him feel the waves of energy as they pass through the air and swirl around him.

"Wow...I feel so weird having your magic touch me physically like this." Cy said lifting his hand up and touching it with awe, as his eyes widened. "It feels so strong, and yet so very light."

I giggled, instantly regretting it when Cy looked at me in a way that made my heart beat faster.

I look to the rabbit cooking on the fire and take it off the stick and start cutting the meat to see if its cooked thoroughly.

"It looks like our meal is ready, too bad you ate all the granola bars." I said looking at Cy through the corner of my eyes.
