In the grand citadel of the Empire, where witch-hunters prowl the marble halls and curses are common as rain, Cainan—a witch hunting Bloodhunter bound to chains of destruction—is just trying to keep his life simple. That is, until he “marries” Lynzelle, a mysterious woman with a scythe forged from something not-quite-of-this world… because she isn’t. She’s from Hell.
The arrangement is simple: pretend to be happily married so Lynzelle can walk among the living without the Empire’s blade at her throat. Easy enough—if you ignore the constant bickering, demonic side-eyes, and the growing suspicion from their fellow hunters.
But while they banter and fight side-by-side, something worse brews beneath the soil. Witches are beginning to gather. They’re attempting to birth forgotten gods through stolen, unborn god-larvae—living cocoons of cosmic divinity. Mythic beasts once thought long dead are returning, corrupted by dark blessings and driven mad by purpose.
As the false marriage becomes tangled in real danger, Cainan begins to question if Lynzelle is only running from Hell… or if Hell itself is following her.
And maybe—just maybe—he’s starting to like the way her hellfire burns.
